For a long time, Minas Gerais dominated the extraction of minerals in the country, for more than 3 centuries. However, due to the large investments made, essentially in the Caraj\u00e1s region, Par\u00e1 assumed the position of largest mining state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change occurred just after the discovery of large mines in the Caraj\u00e1s region, located in the northern state, in the 1960s. At the time, the company VALE aimed to expand mining in Brazil, and ended up finding a vast space for this activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 60's, the company produced around 11 million tons of ores in the country, being the main producer nationally. However, mining in Par\u00e1 was decisive for the numbers to increase exponentially. Currently, it is estimated that the Caraj\u00e1s complex alone produces 150 million tons of iron ore per year. Only 2% of the exploration in the region is currently owned by Vale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main hubs in the region are Cana\u00e3 dos Caraj\u00e1s and Parauapebas. The Cana\u00e3 dos Caraj\u00e1s hub, for example, has gained prominence in recent years, rising to second place in the ranking of Financial Compensation for the Exploration of Mineral Resources (CFEM), according to the National Mining Agency (ANM). Parauapebas is the main mining hub in Par\u00e1 and Brazil, ranking first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The figures for mining in Par\u00e1 are significant, and show the prominence that this activity has for the region: Of the 6.7 billion dollars exported by Par\u00e1 in the first half of 2020, 88.6% comes from mining. Iron ore continues to be the most exported product (US$ 9.196 billion), followed by copper (US$ 2.064 billion) and manganese (US$ 276 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With such prominence, the idea of the state is to maintain production with the same strength. According to data from the union of the Mineral Industries of the State of Par\u00e1 (SIMINERAL), the mineral industry intends to invest R$ 22.013 billion in mining in Par\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Railroads in the mining region of Par\u00e1 currently<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The production of ores is fundamental for the economic movement of Par\u00e1. However, none of this would be possible without an adequate flow of the produced loads. For this, sectors such as rail and road are essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, only one railway, which is in operation, passes through the state of Par\u00e1. It is precisely the<a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/ferrovia-carajas-entenda-tudo-sobre\/#:~:text=N\u00fameros da Ferrovia Caraj\u00e1s,-De acordo com&amp;text=Ainda segundo dados fornecidos pela,mil pessoas anualmente pela via.\"> Caraj\u00e1s Railroad<\/a>, the main railroad in the northern region, which operates in this region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This railroad, managed by Vale S.A, is 892 km long, being the largest passenger railroad in the country, in addition to acting directly in the transport of cargo, especially minerals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the railroad is precisely to connect the main mining regions of the state, such as Marab\u00e1 and Parauapebas, to the port of Ponta da Madeira, in the municipality of S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds (MA).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Possessing the largest freight trains in the world, which can reach up to 330 wagons, the Caraj\u00e1s Railroad is responsible for transporting 120 million tons of cargo and 350,000 passengers per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to this railroad, there is also a project to build another railroad network in the state, which would be fundamental to help with the flow of mining in Par\u00e1.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Par\u00e1 Railroad project has been advancing, and is already in phase 3 of the EVTEA studies \u2013 Technical, Economic and Environmental Feasibility Study. The idea is to build a railroad 515 km long, passing through several municipalities in Par\u00e1, such as Abaetetuba, Acar\u00e1, Barcarena, Moj\u00fa, Thailand, Abel Figueiredo, Dom Eliseu, Ipixuna do Par\u00e1, Paragominas, Rondon do Par\u00e1, Tom\u00e9-A\u00e7u and Bom Jesus do Tocantins<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The railroad will make a connection with the Caraj\u00e1s Railroad, allowing mining in Par\u00e1 to flow more widely and efficiently, even within the state itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Importance of logistics in mining regions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mining is responsible for about 5% of the national GDP, that is, it is an activity of paramount importance for the national economy. In addition to the state of Par\u00e1, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, S\u00e3o Paulo, among others, are states that also have a large participation in mining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, all these states suffer from a common problem: the logistics infrastructure, essentially in relation to the transport of cargo. Organizing and being able to take the products produced is essential, but this is not always done properly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trains are the most suitable vehicles for <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/dificuldades-transporte-minerio-ferro\/\">transporting ores<\/a>. However, the lack of railways and the disparity of investments received compared to the road sector, make efficient logistics difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, as we have seen, only the Caraj\u00e1s Railroad is able to transport the ores produced from mining in Par\u00e1, the main exporting state for this product. In Minas Gerais, a state that is also important for mining, only two railroads operate in the transportation of cargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this way, there is great difficulty in increasing production, since there is not enough transport capacity for this. Entretanto, apenas uma ferrovia, que est\u00e1 em atividade, passa pelo estado do Par\u00e1. \u00c9 justamente a ferrovia Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s, principal ferrovia da regi\u00e3o norte, que atua nessa regi\u00e3o.&nbsp; Essa ferrovia, administrada pela Vale S.A, possui 892 km de extens\u00e3o, sendo a maior ferrovia de transporte de passageiros do pa\u00eds, al\u00e9m de atuar diretamente no transporte de cargas, especialmente os min\u00e9rios.&nbsp; O objetivo da ferrovia \u00e9 justamente interligar as principais regi\u00f5es mineradoras do estado, como Marab\u00e1 e Parauapebas, at\u00e9 o Porto de Ponta da Madeira, no munic\u00edpio de S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds (MA).&nbsp;&nbsp; Possuindo os maiores trens de carga do mundo, que podem chegar at\u00e9 330 vag\u00f5es, a Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por pelo transporte de 120 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de carga e 350 mil passageiros por ano. Al\u00e9m dessa ferrovia, tamb\u00e9m existe um projeto de constru\u00e7\u00e3o de mais uma malha ferrovi\u00e1ria no estado, que seria fundamental para ajudar no escoamento da minera\u00e7\u00e3o do Par\u00e1.&nbsp; O projeto da Ferrovia do Par\u00e1 vem avan\u00e7ando, e j\u00e1 est\u00e1 na fase 3 dos estudos do EVTEA&nbsp; &#8211; Estudo de Viabilidade T\u00e9cnica, Econ\u00f4mica e Ambiental. A ideia \u00e9 construir uma ferrovia com 515 km de extens\u00e3o, passando por diversos munic\u00edpios paraenses, como Abaetetuba, Acar\u00e1, Barcarena, Moj\u00fa, Tail\u00e2ndia, Abel Figueiredo, Dom Eliseu, Ipixuna do Par\u00e1, Paragominas, Rondon do Par\u00e1, Tom\u00e9-A\u00e7u e Bom Jesus do Tocantins A ferrovia far\u00e1 conex\u00e3o com a Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s, permitindo que a minera\u00e7\u00e3o do Par\u00e1 seja escoada de maneira mais ampla e eficiente, at\u00e9 mesmo dentro do pr\u00f3prio estado. Import\u00e2ncia da log\u00edstica nas regi\u00f5es de minera\u00e7\u00e3o A minera\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por cerca de 5% do PIB nacional, ou seja, \u00e9 uma atividade de suma import\u00e2ncia para a economia nacional. Al\u00e9m do estado do Par\u00e1, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, S\u00e3o Paulo, entre outros, s\u00e3o estados que tamb\u00e9m possuem grande participa\u00e7\u00e3o na minera\u00e7\u00e3o. Entretanto, todos esses estados sofrem com um problema em comum: a infraestrutura log\u00edstica, essencialmente em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao transporte das cargas. Por\u00e9m, a car\u00eancia de ferrovias e disparidade de investimentos recebidos se comparado ao setor rodovi\u00e1rio, dificultam uma log\u00edstica eficiente. Atualmente, como vimos, apenas a Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s consegue transportar os min\u00e9rios produzidos da minera\u00e7\u00e3o do Par\u00e1, principal estado exportador desse produto. Em Minas Gerais, estado que tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 importante para a minera\u00e7\u00e3o, apenas duas ferrovias atuam no escoamento das cargas.
