The flow of production from Par\u00e1 passes a lot through the railways of Maranh\u00e3o, helping to take the extracted ores to different regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this sense, the railroads of Maranh\u00e3o have a direct impact on the country's economy. Thus, it is important to understand how this mode of transport is formed in the state of Maranh\u00e3o, that is, which are the main railways that operate in the region, curiosity, which commodities are transported, numbers, among other interesting details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Maranhao Railroads<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brazilian railway context still leaves much to be desired. As a form of transport that is in the background, \u201closing\u201d to the road sector, the rail fleet still lacks stations, roads and infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are several national states that depend a lot on the use of railroads, mainly because of the type of product being transported.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ores, for example, are the products that pass through the the most. About 77% of all <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/transporte-ferroviario-de-cargas\/\">rail transport<\/a> in the country is made up of minerals. As the North and Northeast regions stand out in the extraction of ores, the railways become fundamental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Maranh\u00e3o there are 3 main railways: Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s, Ferrovia S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds and Ferrovia Norte Sul. These railroads in Maranh\u00e3o are essential for the flow of ores extracted in neighboring states, leading mainly to the Port of Itaqui, essential for the export of these products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Caraj\u00e1s Railroad<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Built essentially as a result of the Caraj\u00e1s Project, which aimed to improve mining in Par\u00e1, Tocantins and Maranh\u00e3o, the Caraj\u00e1s Railroad is one of the most important railways in the country. The length of the railway is 892 km, connecting the largest open pit ore mine, Caraj\u00e1s (Par\u00e1), to the port of Ponta da Madeira, in Maranh\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike other railroads in Brazil, which for a long time suffered from the scrapping and abandonment of investments, the railroads of Maranh\u00e3o, essentially the <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/ferrovia-carajas-entenda-tudo-sobre\/\">Caraj\u00e1s Railroad<\/a>, is one of those that is constantly advancing, receiving recurring investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2013 to 2017, for example, the railroad was extended over 500 km, further strengthening its transport capacity, which now handles the movement of 230 million tons of iron ore per year. In 2012, the EFC was considered the most efficient railway in the country by a study by the Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain (Ilos).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds \u2013 Teresina Railway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds Railway, named after the state capital, is one of the main railways in Maranh\u00e3o. The line was inaugurated in 1921, when the main transport in the region was the river. Developed to assist in the flow of various products, essentially cotton, the railroad remains in operation today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, she is responsible for connecting cities of S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds (Maranh\u00e3o) and Teresina (Piau\u00ed), passing through Timon, Caxias, Cod\u00f3, Timbiras, Coroat\u00e1, Pirapemas, Cantanhede, Itapecuru Mirim, Santa Rita, Ros\u00e1rio and Bacabeira, all in Maranh\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 454 km of railroad. Nowadays, the railroad is responsible for the transport of different inputs, such as cement, corrective limestone, clinker, containers, wooden pallets, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ferrovia Norte Sul<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1023\" height=\"685\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/import\u00e2ncia-das-ferrovias-do-maranh\u00e3o.png\" alt=\"import\u00e2ncia das ferrovias do maranh\u00e3o\" class=\"wp-image-4560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/import\u00e2ncia-das-ferrovias-do-maranh\u00e3o.png 1023w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/import\u00e2ncia-das-ferrovias-do-maranh\u00e3o-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/import\u00e2ncia-das-ferrovias-do-maranh\u00e3o-768x514.png 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/import\u00e2ncia-das-ferrovias-do-maranh\u00e3o-500x335.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, among the main railways in Maranh\u00e3o there is also the<a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/ferrovia-norte-sul\/\"> North-South Railroad<\/a>, which takes its name precisely because it was developed to cover a large territorial extension of the country, from north to south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the project, which has been in development for 30 years, is not yet fully ready for use. The initial idea was to build more than 4000 km of railroad, but the works were constantly delayed. The idea is that the line will pass, when finished, through the states of Par\u00e1, Maranh\u00e3o, Tocantins, Goi\u00e1s, Minas Gerais, S\u00e3o Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paran\u00e1, <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/principais-ferrovias-de-santa-catarina\/\">Santa Catarina <\/a>and Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Divided into 3 main stretches, only 2 are in operation: A\u00e7ail\u00e2ndia (MA) and Porto Nacional (TO), and between Rio Verde (GO) and Estrela d\u2019Oeste (SP). Another main stretch, from Porto Nacional (TO) and An\u00e1polis (GO) and other smaller stretches, such as Ouro Verde de Goi\u00e1s (near An\u00e1polis) and Rio Verde (GO), still lack terminals to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lack of investments and the delays in the conclusion of the works make it impossible for the North-South Railway to receive the planned highlight. However, with the arrival of the <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/marco-legal-das-ferrovias\/\">Marco Legal das Ferrovias<\/a>, it is possible that this scenario will change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the enactment of the Marco Legal das Ferrovias law, which diminishes the state's power and control over the railway sector, expectations have grown considerably. According to the government, 79 authorization requests have already been made by private companies to invest in the sector, totaling R$240.8 billion in potential investment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This participation of the private sector can be decisive for the process of construction and implementation of the North-South Railroad to be accelerated, allowing the route to actually start operating in every corner of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maranhao Railwroads: <strong>Porto de Itaqui<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/porto-de-itaqui.png\" alt=\"porto de itaqui\" class=\"wp-image-4561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/porto-de-itaqui.png 1024w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/porto-de-itaqui-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/porto-de-itaqui-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/porto-de-itaqui-500x333.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of what is transported by the main railroads of Maranh\u00e3o has as its final destination the ports of the state. The main one is the port of Itaqui, located in the capital S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds. Currently, it is the 11th Brazilian port with the largest cargo handling in the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Port of Itaqui is supplied by several railways in the region, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Transnordestina (FTL)<\/li><li>Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s (EFC)<\/li><li>North-South Railway;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The movement of the port is quite intense. Annually, the Port of Itaqui receives millions of tons of cargo, essentially soy, corn, fertilizers, copper, coal, pig iron, clinker, slag, manganese, rice, imported liquid bulk, caustic soda, ethanol and LPG.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investments to further improve the performance of the Port of Itaqui continue to take place. Fundamental for the flow of cargo from the North, Northeast and Midwest, the port is part of Emap's Investment Plan (2016-2018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the plan, the resources destined for the infrastructure of the Port reach R$1.3 billion. Of these, R$ 255.55 million are from own resources, R$ 4.126 million from federal resources and R$ 1.093 billion from the private sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As we saw during the article, there are 3 main railways in Maranh\u00e3o, the most active being the Caraj\u00e1s Railway, the main railway in the North and Northeast states. Por ser um modal de transporte que fica em segundo plano, \u201cperdendo\u201d para o setor rodovi\u00e1rio, a frota ferrovi\u00e1ria ainda carece de esta\u00e7\u00f5es, vias e infraestrutura. Entretanto, existem diversos estados nacionais que dependem muito da utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o das ferrovias, principalmente por conta do tipo de produto que est\u00e1 sendo transportado.&nbsp; Os min\u00e9rios, por exemplo, s\u00e3o os produtos que mais passam pelas ferrovias. Cerca de 77% de todo o transporte ferrovi\u00e1rio no pa\u00eds s\u00e3o de min\u00e9rios. Como a regi\u00e3o Norte e Nordeste se destaca na extra\u00e7\u00e3o dos min\u00e9rios, as ferrovias se tornam fundamentais. No Maranh\u00e3o existem 3 ferrovias principais: Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s, Ferrovia S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds e Ferrovia Norte Sul. Essas ferrovias do Maranh\u00e3o s\u00e3o essenciais para o escoamento dos min\u00e9rios extra\u00eddos nos estados vizinhos, levando principalmente at\u00e9 o Porto de Itaqui, fundamental para a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o desses produtos. Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s Constru\u00edda essencialmente por decorr\u00eancia do Projeto Caraj\u00e1s, que visava aprimorar a explora\u00e7\u00e3o de min\u00e9rios no Par\u00e1, Tocantins e Maranh\u00e3o, a Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s \u00e9 umas das mais importantes ferrovias do pa\u00eds. A extens\u00e3o da ferrovia \u00e9 de 892 km, ligando a maior mina de min\u00e9rio a c\u00e9u aberto, Caraj\u00e1s (Par\u00e1), ao&nbsp; Porto de Ponta da Madeira, no Maranh\u00e3o. Diferente de outras ferrovias do Brasil, que durante muito tempo sofreram com o sucateamento e abandono de investimentos, as ferrovias do Maranh\u00e3o, essencialmente a Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s, \u00e9 uma das que est\u00e1 em constante avan\u00e7o, recebendo investimentos recorrentes. Atualmente, ela \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por ligar cidades de S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds (Maranh\u00e3o) e Teresina (Piau\u00ed), passando por&nbsp; Timon, Caxias, Cod\u00f3, Timbiras, Coroat\u00e1, Pirapemas, Cantanhede, Itapecuru Mirim, Santa Rita, Ros\u00e1rio e Bacabeira, todas no Maranh\u00e3o. S\u00e3o 454 km de ferrovia. Nos dias atuais, a ferrovia \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pelo transporte de diferentes insumos, como cimento, calc\u00e1rio corretivo, cl\u00ednquer, cont\u00eaineres, paletes de madeira, entre outros. Ferrovia Norte Sul Por fim, entre as principais ferrovias do Maranh\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m est\u00e1 a Ferrovia Norte-Sul, que leva esse nome justamente por ter sido desenvolvida para abranger uma grande extens\u00e3o territorial do pa\u00eds, de norte a sul. Entretanto, o projeto, que j\u00e1 est\u00e1 em desenvolvimento h\u00e1 30 anos, ainda n\u00e3o est\u00e1 totalmente pronto para uso. A ideia inicial era de ser constru\u00eddo mais de 4000 km de extens\u00e3o da ferrovia, mas as obras foram atrasando constantemente. A ideia \u00e9 que a linha passe, quando finalizada, pelos estados do Par\u00e1, Maranh\u00e3o, Tocantins, Goi\u00e1s, Minas Gerais, S\u00e3o Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paran\u00e1, Santa Catarina e Rio Grande do Sul. Dividida em 3 trechos principais, apenas 2 est\u00e3o em opera\u00e7\u00e3o:&nbsp; A\u00e7ail\u00e2ndia (MA) e Porto Nacional (TO),&nbsp; e entre Rio Verde (GO) e Estrela d&#8217;Oeste (SP). Outro trecho principal, de&nbsp; Porto Nacional (TO) e An\u00e1polis (GO) e outros trechos menores, como o de Ouro Verde de Goi\u00e1s (pr\u00f3ximo a An\u00e1polis) e Rio Verde (GO), ainda carecem de terminais para operarem. A falta de investimentos e os atrasos na conclus\u00e3o das obras impossibilitam a Ferrovia Norte-Sul de receber o destaque planejado. Por\u00e9m, com a chegada do Marco Legal das Ferrovias, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel que esse cen\u00e1rio mude. Desde o sancionamento da lei do Marco Legal das Ferrovias, que diminui o poder e controle do estado sobre o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio, a expectativa cresceu consideravelmente. De acordo com o governo, j\u00e1 foram realizados 79 pedidos de autoriza\u00e7\u00e3o por parte de empresas privadas para investirem no setor, totalizando R $240,8 bilh\u00f5es de potencial investimento.&nbsp; Essa participa\u00e7\u00e3o da iniciativa privada pode ser determinante para que o processo de constru\u00e7\u00e3o e efetiva\u00e7\u00e3o da Ferrovia Norte-Sul seja acelerado, possibilitando que a via comece a atuar de fato em todo extremo do pa\u00eds.s; Ferrovias do Maranh\u00e3o: Porto de Itaqui Muito do que \u00e9 transportado pelas principais ferrovias do Maranh\u00e3o tem como destino final os portos do estado. O principal deles \u00e9 o porto de Itaqui, localizado na capital S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds. Atualmente, \u00e9 o 11\u00b0 porto brasileiro com maior movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o de cargas no pa\u00eds,&nbsp; O Porto do Itaqui \u00e9 abastecido por diversas ferrovias da regi\u00e3o, tais como: Transnordestina (FTL) Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s (EFC) Ferrovia Norte-Sul; A movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o do porto \u00e9 bastante intensa. Anualmente o Porto de Itaqui recebe milh\u00f5es de toneladas de cargas, essencialmente&nbsp; a soja, milho, fertilizantes, cobre, carv\u00e3o, ferro-gusa, clinquer, esc\u00f3ria, mangan\u00eas, arroz, gran\u00e9is l\u00edquidos importados, soda c\u00e1ustica, etanol e GLP.&nbsp; Os investimentos para aprimorar ainda mais a atua\u00e7\u00e3o do Porto do Itaqui seguem acontecendo.
