Despite being a branch present in several Brazilian states, <strong>the concentration of the steel industry in Minas Gerais stands out.<\/strong>Before explaining the current situation of the mining industry, let's understand what the steel industry itself is and how the railways are directly linked to this industrial process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The steel industry is a branch of metallurgy specifically responsible for the manufacture of steel and cast iron. Like any sector that involves production, the steel industry depends on transport routes so that a <strong>efficient product flow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Brazil, because of a history of investments destined to the construction of roads, road transport is one of the main means used in the transport of loads. One of the Brazilian steel companies was installed today in the state of Minas Gerais: <strong>Companhia Sider\u00fargica Belgo-Mineira<\/strong>nowadays called ArcelorMittal A\u00e7osos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another highlight was the creation of <strong>Companhia Sider\u00fargica Nacional (CSN) in 1941.<\/strong>The plant was part of the strategy promoted by Get\u00falio Vargas to promote the country's economic development with basic industries. Although its initial headquarters were in Volta Redonda (RJ), its main iron mines were in Congonhas and Arcos, both in Minas Gerais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the state of Minas Gerais also has other plants in the sector. The main companies that are part of the steel industry in Minas Gerais are <strong>Gerdau<\/strong>founded in 1901, <strong>Aperam South America<\/strong>in 1944 and <strong>Usiminas<\/strong>in 1956.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Total steel production in Minas Gerais is the largest in the country. Operated by Vale S.A. and with an extension of 905 km, one of its most important functions is to carry the steel production from Minas to the ports of Vit\u00f3ria and Tubar\u00e3o (ES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another road is the <strong>Ferrovia Centro-Atl\u00e2ntica<\/strong> As one of the largest rail networks in Brazil, with around 7,000 km of tracks, it connects more than 300 cities in the Southeast, Midwest and Northeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazilian <strong>Southeast Regional Network<\/strong> is also one of the most important sets of lines in Minas Gerais. Currently, the project is being analyzed in the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although not fully approved, other similar measures are already emerging. Created based on the Legal Framework for Railways, <strong>the Pr\u00f3 Trilhos program is a government initiative to boost the construction of new railways based on private investment.<\/strong>At the beginning of December, the Ministry of Infrastructure approved the authorization of the document that allows the beginning of the works. Investments total around R$ 50 billion to add 3,500 km to the national rail network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement was signed by six groups: Bracell, Ferroeste, Gr\u00e3o Par\u00e1, Macro Desenvolvimento, Petrocity and Planalto Piau\u00ed Participa\u00e7\u00f5es.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically thinking about the steel industry in Minas Gerais, the railroad that will be built by Macro Desenvolvimento is the one that will contribute to the flow of products from the region. The stretch in question will connect<strong> Presidente Kennedy (ES) to Concei\u00e7\u00e3o do Mato Dentro (MG) and Sete Lagoas (MG),<\/strong>totaling 610 km in length.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The steel industry is a sector that supplies inputs to several other branches of work, in addition to being a valuable economic branch in its own right. Moderniza\u00e7\u00e3o do setor Assim como a maioria dos setores de trabalho, a siderurgia tamb\u00e9m deve passar por uma moderniza\u00e7\u00e3o. Para isso, algumas medidas est\u00e3o sendo tomadas para n\u00e3o s\u00f3 usufruir de novas tecnologias, mas tamb\u00e9m para poder aprimorar a responsabilidade ambiental do ramo.
