In addition to them, the transport<a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/infraestrutura-logistica\/\"> logistics infrastructure<\/a> segment is also essential, as they are responsible for moving the inputs produced. Among them, highways, railroads and waterways are the segments that stand out the most here in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although all these modes of transport make up the country's transport logistics infrastructure, there is a big difference in the use of each one, especially when compared to the great powers in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Brazil, for example, highways dominate the country's cargo transport scenario, with more than 200,000 km in length and representing basically 60% of all cargo handled. Meanwhile, rail and waterway are in the background in current models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/setor-ferroviario-brasileiro\/\">railroad sector<\/a> is made up of about 30 thousand km in length, representing a value close to 20% of all national transport. Meanwhile, the waterway modal has more than 40,000 km useful for use, and a large part, unfortunately, is not used. The waterway sector still represents about 16% of cargo transportation in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, the road sector is more than enough in this regard and the other two modes, rail and waterway, are matched. Each of these networks is managed by different companies or by the federal government itself. Know the names:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>West East Integration railroad (FIOL)<\/li><li>Tereza Cristina Railroad (FTC)<\/li><li>Transnordestina Logistics railroad (FTL)<\/li><li>MRS;<\/li><li>Rumo;<\/li><li>Vale - Caraj\u00e1s Railroad<\/li><li>Vale - Vit\u00f3ria a Minas Railroad;<\/li><li>Paran\u00e1 West Railroad (Ferroeste)<\/li><li>Transnordestina Log\u00edstica SA (TLSA)<\/li><li>Government Projects<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is worth noting that Rumo is the most active company in the sector. In its railroad network, which occupies the South, Southeast, Midwest and North regions, it is divided into \u201cbranches\u201d, which are: Malha Norte, Malha Sul, Malha Paulista, Malha Oeste and Malha Central. This division, when added together, represents more than 14 thousand km of the 30 thousand km of length of the entire Brazilian railroad network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each railroad built in Brazil aims to supply the municipalities in which they operate, but mainly national ports, which carry out exports.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, each railroad network is responsible for transporting different inputs to these regions, such as agricultural, industrial and mining products. Currently, the most transported inputs are coming from coal mining, representing about 60%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Waterways<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"ferrovias e hidrovias\" class=\"wp-image-3773\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-2048x1364.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/ferrovias-e-hidrovias-500x333.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The waterway sector, on the other hand, comprises, according to the National Transport Confederation (CNT), 8,000 km of coastline and more than 40,000 km of roads with the potential to be navigated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The navigation and use of this mode of transport can be done in different environments, such as lakes, rivers and oceans, both for the transfer of people and goods within the country and also for export and integration with other nearby countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As in the railroad sector, the waterway is responsible for transporting a series of products from different production sectors. Well, one of the answers is that railroads and waterways would bring important savings to the national infrastructure, for different reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, if we put railroads and highways in check, the rail sector is cheaper. Freights are more affordable and fuel costs are lower, journeys are faster, trains allow for a <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/trem-cargueiro\/\">load<\/a> equivalent to more than 100 trucks, among other important reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The price of fuel for trucks, for example, is another impacting factor. Each month, the amount of expenses with gasoline and alcohol increases and, for a truck to make a long journey, as usual, the cost is very high for the supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, it is one more aspect that needs to be considered as to why it is important to scale the modes, using more and more railroads and waterways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We compare highways with railroads, but it is worth noting that the cost of the waterway modal is even more affordable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fuel costs are also more affordable, freight is the same thing and even the calculation of transport during trips is advantageous for vessels. If we think about the number of trucks that travel through the streets each day, the number is incalculable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The emission of carbon dioxide in Brazil, coming from transport vehicles, is represented by 95% on highways and only 5% on railroads. In other words, the difference between the two modes, in relation to the emission of this polluting gas, is enormous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, waterways do not appear in this percentage as they are even cleaner and more peaceful vehicles for the environment. In this way, reducing this difference between sectors could make all the difference economically and also for the environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Possibility of intermodality<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the last determining factor that we selected for the railroad and waterway to change the panorama of the Brazilian transport sector is the possibility of intermodality, that is, the use of railroads and waterways in a single<a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/desafios-logisticos-no-brasil\/\"> logistics sector<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This intermodality is already happening with great effort when we talk about exports. Trains and trucks are in charge of taking the inputs to the national ports, which in turn are responsible for transporting the cargo to partner countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there is the possibility of using, increasingly, rail and waterways in a shorter trip between municipalities. Enquanto isso, ferrovia e hidrovia ficam em segundo plano nos modelos atuais. O setor ferrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 composto por cerca de 30 mil km de extens\u00e3o, representando um valor pr\u00f3ximo a 20% de todo o transporte nacional.&nbsp; Enquanto isso, o modal hidrovi\u00e1rio possui mais de 40 mil km \u00fateis para utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o, sendo que boa parte, infelizmente, n\u00e3o \u00e9 usado. O setor hidrovi\u00e1rio ainda representa cerca de 16% do transporte de cargas no pa\u00eds. Como voc\u00ea pode ver, o setor rodovi\u00e1rio sobra nesse quesito e os outros dois modais, ferrovia e hidrovia, s\u00e3o equiparados. Essa diferen\u00e7a se d\u00e1 por um longo processo de prefer\u00eancia pelo setor rodovi\u00e1rio, essencialmente na d\u00e9cada de 60, quando o governo buscou investir no segmento para atrair ind\u00fastrias automobil\u00edsticas de outros pa\u00edses.&nbsp; Desde ent\u00e3o o investimento nas rodovias s\u00f3 cresceu, enquanto os outros sofreram e ainda sofrem com muito descaso e abandono na infraestrutura. Ferrovia e hidrovia no Brasil Como dissemos, a composi\u00e7\u00e3o de ferrovia e hidrovia no Brasil \u00e9 bastante utilizada, mesmo que n\u00e3o sendo refer\u00eancia para a log\u00edstica de transporte nacional. Primeiramente, falaremos do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio, entendendo como \u00e9 a sua composi\u00e7\u00e3o, onde atuam e para que as ferrovias nacionais s\u00e3o utilizadas. Ferrovias Distribu\u00eddos pelos 30 mil km na totalidade em extens\u00e3o, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 dividido em 10 malhas ferrovi\u00e1rias conclu\u00eddas e em atividade, al\u00e9m de mais duas com constru\u00e7\u00e3o em andamento. Cada uma dessas malhas \u00e9 administrada por empresas distintas ou ent\u00e3o pelo pr\u00f3prio governo federal. Conhe\u00e7a os nomes: Ferrovia de Integra\u00e7\u00e3o Oeste Leste (FIOL) Ferrovia Tereza Cristina (FTC) Ferrovia Transnordestina Log\u00edstica (FTL) MRS; Rumo; Vale &#8211; Estrada de Ferro Caraj\u00e1s; Vale &#8211; Estrada de Ferro Vit\u00f3ria a Minas Estrada de Ferro Paran\u00e1 Oeste (Ferroeste) Transnordestina Log\u00edstica S.A (TLSA) Projetos de Governo; Vale destacar que a empresa Rumo \u00e9 a mais atuante no setor. Na sua malha ferrovi\u00e1ria, que ocupa as regi\u00f5es Sul, Sudeste, Centro-Oeste e Norte, \u00e9 dividida em \u201cramifica\u00e7\u00f5es\u201d, que s\u00e3o: Malha Norte, Malha Sul, Malha Paulista, Malha Oeste e Malha Central. Essa divis\u00e3o, quando somadas todas juntas, representam mais de 14 mil km dos 30 mil km de extens\u00e3o de toda a malha ferrovi\u00e1ria brasileira. Cada ferrovia constru\u00edda no Brasil tem como objetivo o abastecimento dos munic\u00edpios em que atuam, mas principalmente os portos nacionais, que realizam a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o.&nbsp; Al\u00e9m disso, cada malha ferrovi\u00e1ria fica respons\u00e1vel por transportar diferentes insumos para essas regi\u00f5es, como produtos da agricultura, ind\u00fastria e minera\u00e7\u00e3o. Atualmente, os insumos mais transportados s\u00e3o advindos da minera\u00e7\u00e3o de carv\u00e3o, representando cerca de 60%. Hidrovias J\u00e1 o setor hidrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 composto, de acordo com Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional do Transporte (CNT), por 8 mil km de costas e mais de 40 mil quil\u00f4metros de vias com potencial para serem navegadas.&nbsp; A navega\u00e7\u00e3o e utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o desse modal de transporte pode ser feita em diferentes ambientes, como lagos, rios e oceanos, tanto para transfer\u00eancia de pessoas e mercadorias dentro do pa\u00eds e tamb\u00e9m para a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o e integra\u00e7\u00e3o com outros pa\u00edses pr\u00f3ximos. Assim como no setor ferrovi\u00e1rio, o hidrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pelo transporte de uma s\u00e9rie de produtos de diferentes setores produtores. Atualmente, os principais commodities transferidos em rios e mares nacionais s\u00e3o, de acordo com a CNT: carga geral (76.3%), os gran\u00e9is s\u00f3lidos (13,7%), os gran\u00e9is l\u00edquido (5,3%) e a carga roll-on \/ roll-off (1,5%). Mais baratos e eficientes Apesar das rodovias dominarem o segmento de transporte de cargas no pa\u00eds, existe muita discuss\u00e3o a respeito, principalmente em como fazer para equilibrar a matriz de transporte e o por que de fazer isso. Bom,uma das respostas \u00e9 que ferrovia e hidrovia trariam uma economia importante para a infraestrutura nacional, por diferentes motivos. Primeiramente, se colocarmos em xeque ferrovias e rodovias, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 mais barato. Os fretes s\u00e3o mais em conta e os gastos com combust\u00edveis s\u00e3o menores, as viagens s\u00e3o mais r\u00e1pidas, os trens permitem um carregamento equivalente a mais de 100 caminh\u00f5es, entre outros motivos importantes. O pre\u00e7o do combust\u00edvel dos caminh\u00f5es, por exemplo, \u00e9 mais um fator impactante. Cada m\u00eas que se passa os valores dos gastos com gasolina e \u00e1lcool sobem e, para que um caminh\u00e3o possa realizar uma longa viagem, como \u00e9 de costume, o custo \u00e9 muito grande para o abastecimento.
