But do you know which are the main railroads in Santa Catarina? What do they carry? What is their capacity?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the main role of freight railroads around the world is the transport of goods that are important to the country's economy. As Brazil is a country segmented into states, the railroads operating in each state have the role of helping the economic movement from where they are located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Santa Catarina, the products transported, which drive the state's economy, are quite varied and divided between the two main railroads in Santa Catarina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being one of the smallest states in the country, with only 95,730,684 km\u00b2 in length, Santa Catarina is one of the main producers of several important commodities for the national economy, such as: pork, apple, onion, tobacco, heart of palm, poultry, rice, milk, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a large part of these products is moved by highways, spreading across the state and the rest of the country. The first railroad in the state was Ferro Dona Tereza Cristina (EFDTC), built exactly this year and with the objective of transporting coal to the ports of Laguna and Imbituba.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite having gone through changes and concessions over time, the main stretch of the railroad is still active today, being one of the main railroads in Santa Catarina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the inauguration of the first railroad in the state, several other railroads began to appear over the years in the state or passing through the region, such as the Santa Catarina Railroad (EFSC) and the S\u00e3o Paulo\/Rio Grande Railroad (EFSPRG), which were administered by the Brazilian government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, while the S\u00e3o Paulo\/Rio Grande Railroad has little operation today, the Santa Catarina Railroad was deactivated in the last century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The existing railroads in the state of Santa Catarina until the 1960s were \u201cdominated\u201d by the state company Rede Ferrovi\u00e1ria Federal S.A. (RFFSA), which started to manage the entire Brazilian railroad sector. With the privatization plan, in the 90's, the railroads returned to the control of the private sector, remaining until today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tereza Cristina railroad<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/dD8Uz7MzQzYQhR7TFQQ5-UTmiSiR92m4rFqRL8vZdUaZGbRrxY2aRtYxaw6F1kKfa667ayq0iUUhQTLrstzQ_LMV9u8BSSMQRM6rV4cWVuv84BqzyYRWyQEEhYLR5ZKJjeov_Z4D=s0\" alt=\"ferrovia tereza cristina\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the Tereza Cristina Railroad is certainly one of the main railroads in Santa Catarina. With a name very close to the original, this railroad continues to have the only railroad section that operates only in the state of Santa Catarina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Named like this since 1997, when the logistics company Ferrovia Tereza Cristina S\/A (FTC) took over the shares of this railroad line, the railroad has a fundamental role in the transport of coal from Lauro Muller to the port of Imbituba and ceramic products from the port for export.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The railroad line auction was granted a year earlier, in 1996, and the company won a bid of R$18,510,000.00 for a period of 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the railroad has a total length of 164 km, which for the region is quite important. In total there are 10 locomotives operating on the railroad with more than 440 wagons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The railroad network of Ferrovia Tereza Cristina operates in an important coal-producing region for the state's economy, and passes through the municipalities of Imbituba, Laguna, Capivari de Baixo, Tubar\u00e3o, Sang\u00e3o, Jaguaruna, I\u00e7ara, Crici\u00fama, Sider\u00f3polis, Morro da Fuma\u00e7a, Urussanga and Forquilhinha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>RUMO&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"518\" height=\"307\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/trem-da-rumo.png\" alt=\"trem da rumo\" class=\"wp-image-3716\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/trem-da-rumo.png 518w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/trem-da-rumo-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/trem-da-rumo-500x296.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The RUMO company is the largest railroad movement operator in the country. Unlike the Tereza Cristina Railroad, the RUMO railroad covers different states, especially in the South, Midwest, North and Southeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, the line that is now owned by RUMO was called Ferrovia Am\u00e9rica Latina Log\u00edstica (ALL), but the company was absorbed by the current owner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/concessao-ferroviaria\/\">concession<\/a> of this extensive railroad network, being the largest railroad in the country and having a stretch that completes the main railroads of Santa Catarina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 12,900 km of railroad network in Brazil, RUMO operates in the states of Santa Catarina, S\u00e3o Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/ferrovias-do-parana\/\">Paran\u00e1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/ferrovias-de-minas-gerais\/\">Minas Gerais<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/ferrovias-do-estado-de-sao-paulo\/\">S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>, Goi\u00e1s, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Tocantins. This railroad line alone represents more than 40% of the entire railroad length in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each stretch of this railroad line is divided into parts. Therefore, the composition is formed as follows: Malha Sul, Malha Norte, Malha Oeste, Malha Central and Malha Paulista. In total, there are 966 locomotives, 28,000 wagons and 11,700 direct and indirect employees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Santa Catarina, it has 70,000 m2 of storage area and 30,000 m2 of bonded areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As this is a line that passes through different states, with the main objective of supplying these municipalities, but also landing at the Port of Santos, the country's main port, for export, Santa Catarina is part of the route, helping to transport commodities important, such as agricultural commodities and fertilizers, fuels, among others that were already mentioned at the beginning of the article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Future of Santa Catarina's main railroads<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"553\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-1024x553.jpg\" alt=\"principais ferrovias\" class=\"wp-image-3717\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-1024x553.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-768x415.jpg 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-1536x830.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-2048x1106.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/manuten\u00e7\u00e3o-das-ferrovias-500x270.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As we have seen, despite being a state with a small territorial extension, the incentive and investment in railroads is fundamental for the production capacity. In this sense, the government of the state of Santa Catarina, the federal government and the private sector have planned railroad works that cover the state, as well as the RUMO railroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two main highlights that are underway: Leste-Oeste and Litor\u00e2nea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The East-West railroad is a railroad line that has been under discussion for some time, but it encountered obstacles along the way. From 2013 to 2016, for example, much was discussed about the feasibility of building the road, but without much success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, especially 2019 and 2020, discussions about the construction of the railroad have resurfaced. The stretch, which was planned to go from Chapec\u00f3 to Itaja\u00ed, with a capacity of 610 km, has some important objectives in its projection, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Generate income for the state of Santa Catarina;<\/li><li>Decrease in highway maintenance costs;<\/li><li>Preservation of the environment;<\/li><li>Decrease in the number of accidents and cargo theft;<\/li><li>Gain in transport and logistics costs;<\/li><li>Job creation;<\/li><li>Scale the transport matrices;<\/li><li>Others.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the government of the state of Santa Catarina and federations of Santa Catarina, such as the Fiesc (Federation of Industries of SC), continue trying to identify the feasibility of building the railroad, believing that the route would add a lot to the movement of cargo in the state and in the integration with other Brazilian states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Litor\u00e2nea Railroad is also a project that aims to improve cargo transport in the state of Santa Catarina. There are two main stretches that were designed: EF-485 - Porto Uni\u00e3o to S\u00e3o Francisco do Sul and EF-451 - S\u00e3o Francisco do Sul (SC) to Imbituba (SC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main objectives of the construction of this railroad would be to connect the Norte Sul Railroad to the <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/principais-portos-brasileiros\/\">ports<\/a> of Santa Catarina and to transport agricultural production for export.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work also undergoes study and planning phases and also continues as a project to be finalized, needing to be approved by the main government infrastructure instances in the country, in addition to having to undergo environmental assessments, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion: main railroads in Santa Catarina<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As we have seen, the state of Santa Catarina is an important state for the country's economy. The ports of Itaja\u00ed and S\u00e3o Francisco do Sul, for example, are the busiest in the country. In this sense, the implementation of railroads is an important way to improve the <a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/en\/modal-ferroviario\/\">flow<\/a> of goods in the country. Entretanto, grande parte desses produtos s\u00e3o movimentados pelas rodovias, espalhando-se pelo estado e pelo restante do pa\u00eds. J\u00e1 as ferrovias ficam a cargo da movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o interna e externa dos seguintes produtos: agr\u00edcolas, combust\u00edveis, constru\u00e7\u00e3o, siderurgicos, eletroeletr\u00f4nicos, automotivos, qu\u00edmicos, carv\u00e3o, produtos cer\u00e2micos, entre outros. Contexto hist\u00f3rico Antes de dar sequ\u00eancia ao destaque das principais ferrovias de Santa Catarina atualmente, \u00e9 importante fazer uma abordagem hist\u00f3rica, entendendo como a atual malha ferrovi\u00e1ria foi se compondo, quais as ferrovias que j\u00e1 existiram nessa regi\u00e3o, etc. Bom, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio de Santa Catarina come\u00e7ou a ser moldado no s\u00e9culo XIX, em meados de 1880. A primeira ferrovia do estado foi a Ferro Dona Tereza Cristina (EFDTC), constru\u00edda exatamente neste ano e com o objetivo de transportar carv\u00e3o at\u00e9 os portos de Laguna e Imbituba.&nbsp; Apesar de ter passado por mudan\u00e7as e concess\u00f5es ao longo do tempo, o trecho principal da ferrovia segue ativo at\u00e9 hoje, sendo uma das principais ferrovias de Santa Catarina. Depois da inaugura\u00e7\u00e3o da primeira ferrovia no estado, diversas outras ferrovias come\u00e7aram a surgir ao longo dos anos no estado ou que passavam pela regi\u00e3o, como a Estrada de Ferro Santa Catarina (EFSC) e a&nbsp; Estrada de Ferro S\u00e3o Paulo\/Rio Grande (EFSPRG), que eram administradas pelo governo brasileiro.&nbsp; Entretanto, enquanto a Estrada de Ferro S\u00e3o Paulo\/Rio Grande pouco tem atua\u00e7\u00e3o atualmente, a Estrada de Ferro Santa Catarina foi desativada ainda no s\u00e9culo passado. As ferrovias existentes no estado de Santa Catarina at\u00e9 a d\u00e9cada de 60 foram \u201cdominadas\u201d pela empresa estatal Rede Ferrovi\u00e1ria Federal S.A. (RFFSA), que passou a administrar todo o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro. Com o plano de desestatiza\u00e7\u00f5es, na d\u00e9cada de 90, as ferrovias voltaram para o controle do setor privado, permanecendo at\u00e9 hoje.&nbsp; Ferrovia Tereza Cristina Bom, certamente a&nbsp; Ferrovia Tereza Cristina \u00e9 uma das principais ferrovias de Santa Catarina. Com um nome bastante pr\u00f3ximo do original, essa ferrovia segue tendo o \u00fanico trecho ferrovi\u00e1rio que atua apenas no estado catarinense. Denominada assim desde 1997, quando a empresa de log\u00edstica&nbsp; Ferrovia Tereza Cristina S\/A (FTC) assumiu as a\u00e7\u00f5es dessa linha f\u00e9rrea, a ferrovia tem um papel fundamental para o transporte de carv\u00e3o mineral de Lauro Muller at\u00e9 o porto de Imbituba e de produtos cer\u00e2micos do porto para a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o. O leil\u00e3o da linha ferrovi\u00e1ria foi concedido um ano antes, em 1996, e a empresa arrematou com lance de R $18.510.000,00 para um per\u00edodo de 30 anos. Atualmente a ferrovia possui uma extens\u00e3o total de 164 km, que para a regi\u00e3o, \u00e9 bastante importante. No total s\u00e3o 10 locomotivas atuando na ferrovia com mais de 440 vag\u00f5es. A malha ferrovi\u00e1ria da Ferrovia Tereza Cristina atua em uma regi\u00e3o produtora de carv\u00e3o importante para a economia do estado, e passa pelos munic\u00edpios de Imbituba, Laguna, Capivari de Baixo, Tubar\u00e3o, Sang\u00e3o, Jaguaruna, I\u00e7ara, Crici\u00fama, Sider\u00f3polis, Morro da Fuma\u00e7a, Urussanga e Forquilhinha; RUMO&nbsp; A empresa RUMO \u00e9 a maior operadora de movimenta\u00e7\u00f5es ferrovi\u00e1ria do pa\u00eds. Diferentemente da Ferrovia Tereza Cristina, a ferrovia da RUMO abrange diferentes estados, especialmente na regi\u00e3o Sul, Centro-Oeste, Norte e Sudeste. Antigamente, a linha que agora \u00e9 da RUMO se chamava&nbsp; Ferrovia Am\u00e9rica Latina Log\u00edstica (ALL), mas a empresa foi absorvida pela atual dona da concess\u00e3o dessa extensa malha ferrovi\u00e1ria, sendo a maior ferrovia do pa\u00eds e possuindo um trecho que completa as&nbsp; principais ferrovias de santa catarina. Possuindo 12.900km de extens\u00e3o de malha ferrovi\u00e1ria no Brasil, a RUMO atua nos estados de Santa Catarina, S\u00e3o Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paran\u00e1, Minas Gerais, S\u00e3o Paulo, Goi\u00e1s, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul e Tocantins. Apenas essa linha f\u00e9rrea representa mais de 40% de toda a extens\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria do pa\u00eds. Cada trecho dessa linha ferrovi\u00e1ria \u00e9 divida em partes. Por isso, a composi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 formada da seguinte maneira: Malha Sul, Malha Norte, Malha Oeste, Malha Central e Malha Paulista. No total, s\u00e3o 966 locomotivas, 28.000 vag\u00f5es e 11.700 funcion\u00e1rios diretos e indiretos.&nbsp; Em Santa Catarina, possui 70.000 m2 de \u00e1rea para armazenagem e 30.000 m2 de \u00e1reas alfandegadas. Como essa \u00e9 uma linha que passa por diferentes estados, tendo como principais objetivo os abastecimentos desses munic\u00edpios, mas tamb\u00e9m o desembarque no Porto de Santos, principal portu\u00e1rio do pa\u00eds, para a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o, Santa Catarina faz parte do trajeto, ajudando no transporte de commodities importantes, como commodities agr\u00edcolas e fertilizantes, combust\u00edveis, entre outros que j\u00e1 foram mencionados no \u00ednicio do artigo. Futuro das principais ferrovias de Santa Catarina Como vimos, apesar de ser um estado de pequena extens\u00e3o territorial, o incentivo e investimento em ferrovias \u00e9 fundamental para a capacidade produtora.
