Still, there are several networks that are under construction, aiming to make this mode of transport even more competitive. Among these lines, which are part of the composition of the national railroad map, is the West East railroad (FIOL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an integration railroad, that is, it is a model of railroad lines used to integrate other railroads, other modes of transport and regions, making important connections to reach ports in different states.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contextualization<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-1-1.png\" alt=\"Contextualization\" class=\"wp-image-3276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-1-1.png 626w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-1-1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-1-1-500x333.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This model of railroad network is a very old desire. Even at the beginning of the 1930s, during the Vargas era, the government began to design railroads that would interconnect different national regions, aiming at a modernization and industrialization of the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Years later, a railroad model was also created that aimed to connect Brazil with neighboring countries, such as the Transulamericana Railroad, which aimed to connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, that is, Peru to Brazil, especially in the state of Bahia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was within this context and with similar ideas that the West East Railroad was designed. This took place in 2008, during the government of former president Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the project, the West East railroad line would be divided into three main sections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\" translation-block\">Section I - Ilh\u00e9us (BA) - Caetit\u00e9 (BA) - 537 km and interconnection with the Centro-Atl\u00e2ntica railroad;<\/li><li>Section II - Caetit\u00e9 (BA) - Barreiras (BA) - 485 km and interconnection with the S\u00e3o Francisco Waterway<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Section III - Barreiras (BA) - Figueir\u00f3polis (TO) - 505 km and interconnection with the North-South railroad.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see by adding up all the sections, the projection was that the West East Railroad would have a total length of 1527 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The start of the works effectively took place in 2011, when the section I began to be built. At that time, the entire work was the responsibility of the company VALEC Engenharia, Constru\u00e7\u00f5es e Ferrovias S\/A, which operates heavily in the railroad sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The projected completion of this first stretch of the road, which would be the kickoff for everything to be completed quickly, was in 2014. Unfortunately, there were delays that made it impossible for this goal to be long, making it difficult to complete the route and the rest of the railroad West East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to these delays, the company VALEC broke its contract with the consortium of construction companies that participated in the construction of section I, alleging inaccuracies in the work's procedures and, effectively, non-compliance with the obligations, which generated these significant delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the break, the works began to lengthen, taking place at a very slow pace. The maximum deadline for completion of the work given by VALEC was in the year 2018. However, by that date, just under 75% of the work had been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In relation to sections II and III of the work, the project is moving even more slowly. By the year 2019, just over 32% of the works had been completed in stretch II, while stretch III was still in the study and evaluation phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is the West East Railroad currently?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-2.png\" alt=\"Como est\u00e1 atualmente?\" class=\"wp-image-3277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-2.png 1024w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-2-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-2-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-2-500x333.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to persistent delays in the construction of the West East Railroad, especially on section I, changes had to be made to streamline the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, section I, with a projection of 537 km in length, and connecting Ilh\u00e9us (BA) and Caetit\u00e9 (BA), was auctioned in 2021, during the government of President Jair Bolsonaro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The auction was awarded by the company A Bahia Minera\u00e7\u00e3o S\/A (BAMIN), another important national logistics company, which is seeking to establish itself in the railroad sector. In total, the concession was granted for the amount of R$ 32,730,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the company owns the Pedra de Ferro mine in Caetit\u00e9, which together with stretch I of Fiol form the integrated logistics export corridor, it is possible that the works will be accelerated so that exploration in the region becomes increasingly competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the current outlook for the West East Railroad has not changed yet. At the moment, section I of the work continues with about 75% of the work completed, stretch II with just over 32% and section III is still in the study and analysis phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cargo transportation and its importance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Cargo transportation and its importance\" class=\"wp-image-3278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/perspective-view-cargo-freight-trains-depot-PSDBDP3.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several objectives that the West East Railroad needs to achieve in order to use its full potential, such as favoring multimodality of transport, interconnecting railroads and regions of the country, and saving resources in the long-distance transport of inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the main purpose of the West East railroad is to improve the flow of mining and agriculture, mainly through the port of Ilh\u00e9us in Bahia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This outflow is fundamental for the growth of the Northeast region, and also to further increase the export of inputs outside the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bahia, which is one of the main beneficiaries of the West East Railroad, for example, is one of the great producers of national agriculture. The state was once a leader in the production of cocoa and is still among the first, it is the 4th largest producer of coffee in the country, the second largest producer of fruits, the second largest producer of cotton, among other numerous components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, other states in the Northeast, which is the 3rd region that produces the most sugarcane, are also important for national agriculture, such as Alagoas, which is the main sugarcane producer and Pernambuco, which is the second largest producer in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, increasing the alternatives for the flow of these and other types of goods, important for the economy of the region and the country, improves the competitiveness of production, becoming essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading translation-block\">Future plans for the East West Railroad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"860\" height=\"570\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-3.png\" alt=\"Planos futuros para a Ferrovia Oeste Leste\" class=\"wp-image-3279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-3.png 860w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-3-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-3-768x509.png 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pasted-image-0-3-500x331.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As we said, the construction of the West East Railroad suffered delays, which ended up disrupting the schedule of operations. In the meantime, the road that had the greatest advances was auctioned off, also changing the administration and the way it will be built going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this, the works were resumed precisely because of this process. At this time, the expectation is that stretch I of the FIOL network will start operating in 2025, with a forecast to transport, in its first year, more than 18 million tons of goods, especially grains and iron ores produced in the region of Caetit\u00e9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same projection, the expectation is that these numbers will double by 2035, when the shipment should reach more than 50 million tons per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the structuring of the track, it must have more than 1,400 wagons in 16 locomotives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In relation to the other section of the West East Railroad, projections are still modest. Section II, which runs from Caetit\u00e9 (BA) to Barreiras (BA), is still being built. Section III, on the other hand, continues in the process of studies and analyses, awaiting, mainly, the licensing of installation by Ibama so that the works can start.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another important railroad in Brazil, which is still under construction, the West East Railroad gained new directions this year, with the auctioning of the concession for section I of the road to the company BAMIN, which invests heavily in the region. Thus, we can conclude with the article that the expectations of a possible end for the work of the stretch, and also for the other parts of the road, were renewed. Ainda no come\u00e7o da d\u00e9cada de 1930, durante a era Vargas, o governo j\u00e1 come\u00e7ou a projetar ferrovias que interligassem diferentes regi\u00f5es nacionais, visando uma moderniza\u00e7\u00e3o e industrializa\u00e7\u00e3o do setor. Anos depois, foi idealizado tamb\u00e9m um modelo ferrovi\u00e1rio que visava interligar o Brasil com pa\u00edses vizinhos, como a Ferrovia Transulamericana, que tinha como objetivo ligar o Oceano Atl\u00e2ntico ao Pac\u00edfico, ou seja, o Peru ao Brasil, especialmente no estado da Bahia. Foi com esse contexto e com ideias semelhantes que a Ferrovia Oeste Leste passou a ser projetada. Isso ocorreu em 2008, durante o governo do ex-presidente Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva. No projeto, a linha da Ferrovia Oeste Leste seria dividido em tr\u00eas trechos principais: Trecho I &#8211; Ilh\u00e9us (BA) &#8211; Caetit\u00e9 (BA) &#8211;&nbsp; 537 km e interliga\u00e7\u00e3o com a Ferrovia Centro-Atl\u00e2ntica; Trecho II &#8211; Caetit\u00e9 (BA) &#8211; Barreiras (BA) &#8211; 485 e interliga\u00e7\u00e3o com a Hidrovia do S\u00e3o Francisco Trecho III &#8211; Barreiras (BA) &#8211; Figueir\u00f3polis (TO) &#8211; 505 km e interliga\u00e7\u00e3o com a&nbsp; Ferrovia Norte-Sul. Como voc\u00ea pode ver somando todos os trechos, a proje\u00e7\u00e3o era de que a Ferrovia Oeste Leste tivesse, no total, 1527 km de extens\u00e3o. O in\u00edcio das obras ocorreu, efetivamente, em 2011, quando o trecho I come\u00e7ou a ser constru\u00eddo. Nessa \u00e9poca, toda a obra era de responsabilidade da empresa VALEC Engenharia, Constru\u00e7\u00f5es e Ferrovias S\/A, que atua fortemente no setor ferrovi\u00e1rio. A proje\u00e7\u00e3o de conclus\u00e3o desse primeiro trecho da via, que seria o pontap\u00e9 inicial para que tudo fosse terminado rapidamente, era no ano de 2014. Infelizmente, ocorreram atrasos que impossibilitaram que essa meta fosse comprida, dificultando a conclus\u00e3o do trajeto e do restante da Ferrovia Oeste Leste. Por conta desses atrasos, a empresa VALEC rompeu seu contrato com o cons\u00f3rcio de construtoras que participavam da constru\u00e7\u00e3o do trecho I, alegando incorre\u00e7\u00f5es nos procedimentos da obra e, efetivamente, descumprimento das obriga\u00e7\u00f5es, que geraram esses atrasos significativos. A partir do rompimento, as obras passaram a se alongar, ocorrendo em ritmo bastante devagar. O prazo m\u00e1ximo de conclus\u00e3o da obra dado pela VALEC, era no ano de 2018. Entretanto, at\u00e9 essa data, pouco menos de 75% das obras estavam conclu\u00eddas. Em rela\u00e7\u00e3o aos trechos II e III da obra, o projeto caminha ainda mais lentamente. At\u00e9&nbsp; o ano de 2019, pouco mais de 32% das obras haviam sido conclu\u00eddas no trecho II, enquanto o trecho III ainda estava em fase de estudos e avalia\u00e7\u00f5es. Como est\u00e1 atualmente a Ferrovia Oeste Leste? Por conta dos atrasos persistentes na constru\u00e7\u00e3o da Ferrovia Oeste Leste, especialmente no trecho I, foi necess\u00e1rio realizar mudan\u00e7as para que o projeto fosse agilizado. Dessa maneira, o trecho I, com proje\u00e7\u00e3o de 537 km de extens\u00e3o, e que liga Ilh\u00e9us (BA) e Caetit\u00e9 (BA), foi leiloado em em 2021, durante o governo do presidente Jair Bolsonaro. O leil\u00e3o foi arrematado pela empresa A Bahia Minera\u00e7\u00e3o S\/A (BAMIN), mais uma importante empresa de log\u00edstica nacional, que est\u00e1 buscando se estabelecer no setor ferrovi\u00e1rio. No total, a concess\u00e3o foi cedida pelo valor de R $32.730.000 milh\u00f5es. Como a empresa \u00e9 a propriet\u00e1ria da Mina Pedra de Ferro em Caetit\u00e9, que juntos ao trecho I da Fiol formam o corredor de exporta\u00e7\u00e3o de log\u00edstica integrada, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel que as obras sejam aceleradas para que a explora\u00e7\u00e3o na regi\u00e3o seja cada vez mais competitiva. Entretanto, o panorama atual da Ferrovia Oeste Leste ainda n\u00e3o mudou. No momento, o trecho I da obra segue com cerca de 75% das obras conclu\u00eddas, o trecho II com pouco mais de 32% e o trecho III ainda est\u00e1 em fase de estudos e an\u00e1lises. Transporte de cargas e sua import\u00e2ncia Existem diversos objetivos que a Ferrovia Oeste Leste precisa atingir para utilizar todo o seu potencial, como favorecer a multimodalidade de transportes, interligar ferrovias e regi\u00f5es do pa\u00eds, e poupar recursos no transporte de insumos a longa dist\u00e2ncia. Entretanto, o principal prop\u00f3sito da Ferrovia Oeste Leste \u00e9 aprimorar o escoamento da minera\u00e7\u00e3o e da agricultura, principalmente por meio do portu\u00e1rio de Ilh\u00e9us na Bahia. Esse escoamento \u00e9 fundamental para o crescimento da regi\u00e3o Nordeste, e tamb\u00e9m para aumentar ainda mais a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o de insumos para fora do pa\u00eds. A Bahia, que \u00e9 um dos principais benefici\u00e1rios da Ferrovia Oeste Leste, por exemplo, \u00e9 um dos grandes produtores da agricultura nacional. O estado j\u00e1 foi l\u00edder na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de cacau e at\u00e9 hoje se engloba entre os primeiros, \u00e9 o 4\u00b0 maior produtor de caf\u00e9 do pa\u00eds, \u00e9 o 2\u00b0 maior produtor de frutas, 2\u00b0 maior de algod\u00e3o, entre outros in\u00fameros componentes. Ainda, outros estados do Nordeste, que \u00e9 a 3\u00b0 regi\u00e3o que mais produz cana-de-a\u00e7\u00facar tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o importantes para a agricultura nacional, como o Alagoas que \u00e9 o principal produtor de cana-de-a\u00e7\u00facar e o Pernambuco, que \u00e9 2\u00b0 maior nesse quesito. Por isso, aumentar as alternativas para o escoamento desses e outros tipos de mercadorias, importantes para a economia da regi\u00e3o e do pa\u00eds, melhora a competitividade da produ\u00e7\u00e3o, se tornando fundamental. Planos futuros para a Ferrovia Oeste Leste Como dissemos, a constru\u00e7\u00e3o da Ferrovia Oeste Leste sofreu com atrasos, o que acabou atrapalhando o cronograma das opera\u00e7\u00f5es. Nesse meio tempo, a via que tinha maiores avan\u00e7os, foi leiloada, mudando tamb\u00e9m a administra\u00e7\u00e3o e a forma como ela ser\u00e1 constru\u00edda daqui para frente. Apesar disso, as obras foram retomadas justamente por conta desse processo.
