However, exports of inputs or services are also relevant, representing about 14% of the total Brazilian GDP. Export depends on the means of transport available to take products out of the country. The main one, in our country, is the port sector. For these inputs to reach national ports, the road and rail modes are the most important auxiliaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several inputs fall into the category of items that are transported. Most depend on the production of agribusiness or on industries. Steel, for example, is a fundamental item for the Brazilian economy, since it is used in different commercial sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steel production, in fact, has been growing in recent months. In September 2020, growth was 7.5% over the previous month, adding up to more than 2.6 million tons produced this month. But, if we count the production from January to September this year, there was a decrease of about 9.7% in relation to the same period in 2019. In total, between January and September, production was over 22 million tons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 40% or 50% of the steel produced in Brazilian steelmakers is exported. This number varies according to the internal movement of the country, meeting the demands imposed by the national market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the country's main means of export, both for steel and other products, is the port, the logistics behind the flow of these items is essential for its full operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ), from January to July 2020, approximately 221.15 million tons of national inputs were handled.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The product with the greatest movement in this period, with around 22%, is not classified, but was transported in containers to the ports. Then there is soy (17.66%), other products (15.35%), iron ore (10.79%) and oil products (10.20%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dependence on the railroad modal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"827\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-5.png\" alt=\"Dependence on the railroad modal\" class=\"wp-image-2898\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-5.png 827w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-5-300x116.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-5-768x297.png 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-5-500x193.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 827px) 100vw, 827px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Export can only be an important aspect of the Brazilian economy because there are ways to transport cargo to ports, which consequently reaches Brazil's economic partner countries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, our country still depends a lot on the road sector for the flow of cargo. About 61% of all cargo transported passes through national highways, while by rail, just under 22%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The challenges for the growth of important productive sectors of the Brazilian economy, such as the industrial and agribusiness segments, involve the need to establish a scale between the sectors of road transport and the railroad modal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the more practical and less expensive logistics in the railroad sector, carrying out cargoes to ports via railroads seems to be more and more an advantageous business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The railroad modal imposes a more efficient logistics, manages to load a much larger amount of cargo in one trip, freight is cheaper due to the absence of tolls and trips are faster.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Precisely for this reason, the country's economic growth, especially in relation to agribusiness and industries, comes up against this lack of competitiveness in the railroad modal, which is increasingly notable in relation to the volume of cargo flow to national ports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that the number of cargoes transported by rail to the ports has been increasing, at least in some regions. In 2019, for example, the number of cargoes transported by rail to the main ports in Paran\u00e1 increased by 15%. In total, more than 3.2 million tons reached the ports of Paran\u00e1 by rail, surpassing the 2.8 million reached in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Agribusiness and the railroads<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-6.png\" alt=\"Agribusiness and the railroads\" class=\"wp-image-2899\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-6.png 512w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-6-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-6-500x332.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA), agribusiness ended the year 2019 representing about 21% of all national GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This very expressive number shows that agribusiness is extremely important for the country's economy and should continue to be one of the exponents of national economic growth in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In spite of this, the numerical data could be even greater, if Brazil had a more adequate transport logistics infrastructure for the sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the lack of infrastructure on the highways, with potholed and unpaved roads, the road sector, which transports about 61% of the country's cargo, has become an ineffective modal for the growth of agribusiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>With that, the main alternative is the railroad modal. As we have shown, the rail sector has some advantages over its \u201ccompetitor\u201d, such as lower logistics costs, better conditions on the roads, shorter journeys and no traffic, and the amount of cargo that can be loaded in one trip by trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Dessa maneira, o crescimento do escoamento de cargas para os portos nacionais vindos do agroneg\u00f3cio depende muito da expans\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria. Para entender melhor sobre isso, basta a<a href=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/expansao-do-agronegocio\/\" target=\"_self\">cessar aqui<\/a> em que abordamos a expans\u00e3o do agroneg\u00f3cio relacionada ao crescimento das ferrovias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steelmakers and railroad&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"492\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-7.png\" alt=\"Steelmakers and railroad\" class=\"wp-image-2900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-7.png 512w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-7-300x288.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-7-500x480.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As we said at the beginning of the text, steel, the main input produced in the steel industries, also depends on the promotion of investments in the railroad modal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020, until September this year, around 8.6 million tons of steel were exported outside the country, representing a total value of US $ 4.2 billion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This number could also be higher, if there was sufficient demand and capacity to move around to meet the sector's production.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As exports represent around 40 to 50% of the inputs produced in steel mills, production capacity should be improved so that this number represents much more than the 8.6 million tons exported in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this way, steelmakers are dependent on the growth of the railroad modal to be able to expand their productive capacity, because that way they would be able to transport the produced loads without there being waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The growth of the railroad modal impacts the production and transport of steel companies, being a potential generator of more revenues for the sector and for the national economy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion on the importance of the railroad modal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In view of the advantages that the railroad modal presents, mainly in relation to the highways, we were able to conclude with the article that the growth of the cargo flow to the national ports, also passes through the expansion of the Brazilian railroads. A produ\u00e7\u00e3o do a\u00e7o, inclusive, vem crescendo nos \u00faltimos meses. Em setembro de 2020, o crescimento foi de 7,5% em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao m\u00eas anterior, somando mais de 2,6 milh\u00f5es de toneladas produzidas neste m\u00eas. Mas, se contarmos a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de janeiro at\u00e9 setembro deste ano, houve uma queda de cerca de 9,7% em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao mesmo per\u00edodo em 2019. No total, entre&nbsp; janeiro e setembro, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o foi de mais de 22 milh\u00f5es de toneladas.&nbsp; Em torno de 40% ou 50% do a\u00e7o produzido nas sider\u00fargicas brasileiras s\u00e3o exportados. Esse n\u00famero varia de acordo com a movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o interna do pa\u00eds, atendendo \u00e0s demandas impostas pelo mercado nacional. Como o principal meio de exporta\u00e7\u00e3o do pa\u00eds, tanto do a\u00e7o, como de outros produtos, \u00e9 o portu\u00e1rio, a log\u00edstica por tr\u00e1s do escoamento desses itens \u00e9 essencial para o seu pleno funcionamento. De acordo com a Ag\u00eancia Nacional de Transportes Aquavi\u00e1rios (ANTAQ), de janeiro at\u00e9 julho de 2020 foram movimentadas cerca de 221,15 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de insumos nacionais.&nbsp; O produto com maior movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o nesse per\u00edodo, com cerca de 22%, n\u00e3o \u00e9 classificado, mas foi transportado em cont\u00eaineres at\u00e9 os portos. Em seguida, temos a soja (17,66%), outros produtos (15,35%), min\u00e9rio de ferro (10,79%) e derivados do petr\u00f3leo (10,20%). Depend\u00eancia do modal ferrovi\u00e1rio A exporta\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00f3 consegue ser um aspecto importante da economia brasileira porque existem meios de transportar as cargas at\u00e9 os portos que, consequentemente, alcan\u00e7a os pa\u00edses parceiros econ\u00f4micos do Brasil.&nbsp; De um modo geral, nosso pa\u00eds ainda depende muito do setor rodovi\u00e1rio para o escoamento de cargas. Cerca de 61% de todas as cargas transportadas passam pelas rodovias nacionais, enquanto que pelo modal ferrovi\u00e1rio passam pouco menos de 22%. Os desafios para o crescimento de setores produtivos importantes da economia brasileira, como o segmento industrial e do agroneg\u00f3cio, passam pela necessidade de estabelecer um equil\u00edbrio entre os setores de transporte rodovi\u00e1rio e o modal ferrovi\u00e1rio. Por conta da log\u00edstica mais pr\u00e1tica e menos encarecida do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio, realizar o escoamento de cargas para os portos, pelas ferrovias, parece cada vez mais um neg\u00f3cio vantajoso. O modal ferrovi\u00e1rio imp\u00f5e uma log\u00edstica mais eficaz, consegue carregar uma quantidade de cargas muito maior em uma s\u00f3 viagem, os fretes s\u00e3o mais baratos por conta da aus\u00eancia de ped\u00e1gios e as viagens s\u00e3o mais r\u00e1pidas.&nbsp; Justamente por isso, o crescimento econ\u00f4mico do pa\u00eds, principalmente em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao agroneg\u00f3cio e \u00e0s ind\u00fastrias, esbarra nessa falta de competitividade do modal ferrovi\u00e1rio, que \u00e9 cada vez mais not\u00f3ria em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao volume de escoamento de cargas para os portos nacionais. A boa not\u00edcia \u00e9 que o n\u00famero de cargas transportadas pelas ferrovias at\u00e9 os portos vem aumentando, pelo menos em algumas regi\u00f5es. Em 2019, por exemplo, o n\u00famero de cargas transportadas pelo modal ferrovi\u00e1rio at\u00e9 os principais portos do Paran\u00e1 obteve um acr\u00e9scimo de 15%. No total, mais de 3,2 milh\u00f5es de toneladas chegaram aos portos paranaenses pelas ferrovias, superando as 2,8 milh\u00f5es alcan\u00e7adas em 2018. Agroneg\u00f3cio e as ferrovias De acordo com a Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o da Agricultura e Pecu\u00e1ria do Brasil (CNA), o agroneg\u00f3cio terminou o ano de 2019 representando cerca de 21% de todo o PIB nacional. Esse n\u00famero, bastante expressivo, mostra que o agroneg\u00f3cio tem suma import\u00e2ncia para a economia do pa\u00eds e deve seguir como um dos expoentes do crescimento econ\u00f4mico nacional nos pr\u00f3ximos anos. Apesar disso, os dados num\u00e9ricos poderiam ser ainda maiores, se o Brasil apresentasse uma infraestrutura log\u00edstica de transporte mais adequada para o setor.&nbsp; Por conta da falta de infraestrutura nas rodovias, com vias esburacadas e sem pavimenta\u00e7\u00e3o, o setor rodovi\u00e1rio, que transporta cerca de 61% das cargas do pa\u00eds, vem se tornando um modal ineficaz para o crescimento do agroneg\u00f3cio. Com isso, a principal alternativa \u00e9 o modal ferrovi\u00e1rio. Como apresentamos, o setor das ferrovias disp\u00f5e de algumas vantagens em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao seu \u201cconcorrente\u201d, como os custos log\u00edsticos inferiores, melhores condi\u00e7\u00f5es nas vias, viagens mais curtas e sem tr\u00e2nsito, e a quantidade de carga que pode ser carregada em uma s\u00f3 viagem pelos trens. Dessa maneira, o crescimento do escoamento de cargas para os portos nacionais vindos do agroneg\u00f3cio depende muito da expans\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria. Sider\u00fargicas e ferrovia&nbsp; Como dissemos no in\u00edcio do texto, o a\u00e7o, principal insumo produzido nas ind\u00fastrias sider\u00fargicas, tamb\u00e9m depende da fomenta\u00e7\u00e3o de investimentos no modal ferrovi\u00e1rio. Em 2020, at\u00e9 setembro deste ano, foram exportadas cerca de 8,6 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de a\u00e7o para fora do pa\u00eds, representando um valor total de US $4,2 bilh\u00f5es.&nbsp; Esse n\u00famero tamb\u00e9m poderia ser maior, se houvesse demanda e capacidade de locomo\u00e7\u00e3o o suficiente para atender \u00e0 produ\u00e7\u00e3o do setor.&nbsp; Como as exporta\u00e7\u00f5es representam em torno de 40 a 50% dos insumos produzidos nas sider\u00fargicas, a capacidade produtiva deveria ser aprimorada para que esse n\u00famero represente muito mais do que os 8,6 milh\u00f5es de toneladas exportadas em 2020.
