S\u00e3o Paulo is the most developed Brazilian state today, and this development is directly linked to investments made in railroads, since the second railroad opened in the country passed through the state, allowing constant cargo transportation to the main Brazilian port, the port of Santos .&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This railroad is the S\u00e3o Paulo railroad (SPR), effectively founded in 1867, connecting the Jundia\u00ed terminal to the coastal city of Santos, passing through several other cities such as the capital itself, the cities of the great ABC and other coastal municipalities. implementation of SPR, also known as Estrada Ferro-Santos, had as main objective the disposal of the main economic product at the time, coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The time of the construction of the SPR was a troubled time in the country, as Brazil was undergoing constant changes in the laws on slavery, which would culminate a few years later in the abolition of slavery. After this period, Brazil implemented a strong immigration policy, and S\u00e3o Paulo was the region that received the most immigrants from Europe and Asia. The coffee production and the work of the railroads allowed countless immigrants to work and, consequently, the railroads started to develop more and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, this is not the only railroad that covers the state of S\u00e3o Paulo, but it is still one of the main ones. Do you know how the Estrada Ferro-Santos and the other railroads that make up the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network are doing? But, of course, this changed, and this S\u00e3o Paulo rail network went through a long process of division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 90s, the stretch of the Estrada de Ferro-Santos line went through a concession process and suffered a division. The stretch from Rio Grande da Serra to Santos was acquired by MRS Log\u00edstica, a major investor in the railroad sector. This section of the line continues to be used to transport cargo and supply the Santista port. The other part of the section is used today by urban trains, that is, it is part of the composition of trains that transport people from one place to another. In this case, there are lines 7 (Br\u00e1s - Jundia\u00ed) and 10 (Br\u00e1s - Rio Grande da Serra), managed by Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from MRS Log\u00edstica itself, which has more than 1600 km of railroad lines in Brazil, the section that currently belongs to the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network still has a large contingent of cargo transported daily, despite the small extent. According to the company, in 2016, more than 32 million tons of cargo such as agricultural and steel products passed through this line. This railroad passes through several states, such as Bahia, Sergipe, Goi\u00e1s and all states in the Southeast region, being the main line for the integration of these three Brazilian regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the more than 7000 km of extension, part of this mileage passes through several cities in S\u00e3o Paulo that make up yet another extensive area of the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network. In this line, different items of production and consumption are transported, such as soybeans, iron ore, sugar, corn and others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Malha Sul, Malha Oeste and Malha Paulista<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"323\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-16-1-1.png\" alt=\"Malha Ferrovi\u00e1ria S\u00e3o Paulo expanding?\" class=\"wp-image-2785\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-16-1-1.png 640w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-16-1-1-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-16-1-1-500x252.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These three railroad lines close the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network and all are controlled by the same company, Rumo. Rumo Log\u00edstica is the main company in the railroad industry, containing the largest mileage extension of railroad lines in the country, mainly present in the South, Southeast and Midwest regions. In total, there are more than 28 thousand wagons present on the trains belonging to this huge company in the railroad sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the more than 14 thousand km long, about 14% of the entire line belongs to the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network. The main objective of the line is to supply Santistas port workers, places of intense exportation of products extracted and grown in Brazilian lands. The busiest items in S\u00e3o Paulo's networks in 2018, according to information from the Investment Partnership Program, were corn, soy, sugar, soy meal and diesel oil. There are several factors that involve this comparison, benefits on the one hand and disadvantages on the other. What is certain is that these are currently the main means of transportation, both for cargo and people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The railroad sector was inserted first in the historical context of Brazil, mainly with lines such as the Estrada Ferro-Santos, belonging to the railroad network S\u00e3o Paulo and contextualized in the introduction of our text. But, over a long period of the last century, investments in railroad lines have greatly decreased, even causing many roads to be abandoned. On the other hand, the federal, state and municipal governments started to invest heavily in the construction and expansion of road lines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The road sector allows not only the ample transport of cargo between regions, but also the movement of people in their utility vehicles to different cities, connected by extensive highways throughout the country. Only in the State of S\u00e3o Paulo, the most populous and developed state in the country, according to data from the State Government's Logistics and Transport Secretariat, there are approximately 35 thousand km of road line, much higher than the mileage of the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network. Also, according to the Secretariat, about 90% of all cargo transport carried out in the state is done by this sector, that is, a difference of nine times more than the movement by rail and other means of transport.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Completion of the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the text we were able to get to know the main railroad companies that make up the S\u00e3o Paulo rail network. It was possible to notice that in the comparison with the road sector, unfortunately the railroads were left out and replaced over the last century, making the road sector still prevail in cargo handling in the state of S\u00e3o Paulo. A \u00e9poca da constru\u00e7\u00e3o da SPR era um momento conturbado do pa\u00eds, j\u00e1 que o Brasil passava por constantes mudan\u00e7as nas leis sobre a escravatura, que culminariam poucos anos depois na aboli\u00e7\u00e3o da escravid\u00e3o. Ap\u00f3s esse per\u00edodo, o Brasil implementou uma forte pol\u00edtica de imigra\u00e7\u00e3o, e S\u00e3o Paulo foi a regi\u00e3o que mais recebeu imigrantes vindos da Europa e da \u00c1sia. A produ\u00e7\u00e3o cafeeira e o trabalho das ferrovias permitiram que in\u00fameros imigrantes tivessem onde trabalhar e, consequentemente, as ferrovias passaram a se desenvolver cada vez mais.&nbsp; Atualmente, essa n\u00e3o \u00e9 a \u00fanica ferrovia que abrange o estado de S\u00e3o Paulo, mas ainda \u00e9 uma das principais. A partir de agora falaremos do momento atual das ferrovias paulistas, bem como faremos a sua compara\u00e7\u00e3o com outro setor de transporte important\u00edssimo para o pa\u00eds, o setor rodovi\u00e1rio.&nbsp; Estrada Ferro Santos atual Como mencionamos, na \u00e9poca que foi constru\u00edda e inaugurada, a Estrada Ferro-Santos tinha o caf\u00e9 como principal carga transportada, j\u00e1 que esse produto era a base da economia do momento. Mas, naturalmente, isso foi se modificando, e essa malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP passou por um longo processo de divis\u00e3o. Na d\u00e9cada de 90, o trecho da linha da Estrada Ferro-Santos passou por um processo de concess\u00e3o e sofreu uma divis\u00e3o. O trecho que engloba Rio Grande da Serra at\u00e9 Santos foi adquirido pela MRS Log\u00edstica, importante investidora no setor ferrovi\u00e1rio. Esse trecho da linha segue sendo utilizado para o transporte de cargas e abastecimento do portu\u00e1rio Santista. A outra parte do trecho \u00e9 utilizada nos dias atuais por trens urbanos, ou seja, ela faz parte da composi\u00e7\u00e3o de trens que transportam pessoas de um local para outro. Nesse caso, s\u00e3o as linhas 7 (Br\u00e1s &#8211; Jundia\u00ed) e 10 (Br\u00e1s &#8211; Rio Grande da Serra), administradas pela Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM). Segundo dados da pr\u00f3pria MRS Log\u00edstica, que possui mais de 1600 km de extens\u00e3o de linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias no Brasil, o trecho que atualmente pertence \u00e0 malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP ainda possui um grande contingente de cargas transportadas diariamente, apesar da pouca extens\u00e3o. De acordo com a empresa, em 2016, mais de 32 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de cargas como produtos agr\u00edcolas e sider\u00fargicos passaram por essa linha. Os investimentos nos \u00faltimos anos feitos pela companhia atingiram a marca de mais de 400 milh\u00f5es de reais para a melhoria do trajeto e da infraestrutura.&nbsp; Ferrovia Centro-Atl\u00e2ntica (FCA) A Ferrovia Centro-Atl\u00e2ntica, controlada pela empresa VLI Log\u00edstica, que \u00e9 a parte empresarial log\u00edstica da multinacional Vale, \u00e9 uma das maiores ferrovias brasileiras. Essa ferrovia passa por diversos estados, como Bahia, Sergipe, Goi\u00e1s e todos os estados da regi\u00e3o Sudeste, sendo a principal linha para integra\u00e7\u00e3o dessas tr\u00eas regi\u00f5es brasileiras. Dos mais de 7000 km de extens\u00e3o, uma parte dessa quilometragem passa por diversas cidades paulistas que comp\u00f5em mais uma extensa \u00e1rea da malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP. Nessa linha s\u00e3o transportados diferentes itens de produ\u00e7\u00e3o e consumo, como soja, min\u00e9rio de ferro, a\u00e7\u00facar, milho e outros.&nbsp; Malha Sul, Malha oeste e Malha Paulista Essas tr\u00eas linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias fecham a malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP e todas s\u00e3o comandadas pela mesma companhia, a empresa Rumo. A Rumo Log\u00edstica \u00e9 a principal empresa do ramo ferrovi\u00e1rio, contendo a maior extens\u00e3o de quilometragem de linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias do pa\u00eds, presentes essencialmente nas regi\u00f5es Sul, Sudeste e Centro Oeste. No total, s\u00e3o mais de 28 mil vag\u00f5es presentes nos trens pertencentes a essa imensa empresa do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio.&nbsp; Dos mais de 14mil km de extens\u00e3o, cerca de 14% de toda a linha pertence a malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP. O principal objetivo da linha \u00e9 abastecer os portu\u00e1rios Santistas, locais de intensa exporta\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos extra\u00eddos e cultivados nas terras brasileiras. Os itens mais movimentados nas malhas paulistas em 2018, segundo informa\u00e7\u00f5es do Programa de Parceria de Investimento, foram milho, soja, a\u00e7\u00facar, farelo de soja e \u00f3leo diesel. Ainda de acordo com informa\u00e7\u00f5es do programa do Governo Federal, a previs\u00e3o de investimentos para os pr\u00f3ximos anos \u00e9 de cerca de R$ 6 bilh\u00f5es, visando a melhoria da malha, infraestrutura e amplia\u00e7\u00e3o da quilometragem. Compara\u00e7\u00e3o: rodovias e malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP Comparar os setores ferrovi\u00e1rio e rodovi\u00e1rio n\u00e3o \u00e9 uma tarefa simples. S\u00e3o v\u00e1rios os fatores que envolvem essa compara\u00e7\u00e3o, benef\u00edcios de um lado e desvantagens do outro. O certo \u00e9 que esses s\u00e3o, atualmente, os principais meios de transporte, tanto de cargas como de pessoas. O setor ferrovi\u00e1rio se inseriu primeiro no contexto hist\u00f3rico do Brasil, principalmente com linhas como a Estrada Ferro-Santos, pertencente \u00e0 malha ferrovi\u00e1ria SP e contextualizada na introdu\u00e7\u00e3o do nosso texto. Mas, durante um longo per\u00edodo do s\u00e9culo passado, os investimentos nas linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias diminu\u00edram muito, fazendo, inclusive, com que muitas vias fossem abandonadas. Em contrapartida, os governos federal, estadual e municipal passaram a investir fortemente na constru\u00e7\u00e3o e expans\u00e3o das linhas rodovi\u00e1rias.&nbsp; O setor rodovi\u00e1rio possibilita n\u00e3o s\u00f3 o amplo transporte de cargas entre regi\u00f5es, mas tamb\u00e9m a locomo\u00e7\u00e3o de pessoas em seus ve\u00edculos utilit\u00e1rios para cidades diversas, conectadas por extensas rodovias por todo pa\u00eds.
