As our audience is national, we need to address the history of this important sector here in the country. The beginning of this history took place in 1852, when the first railroad section was granted to the future Bar\u00e3o de Mau\u00e1, Irineu Evangelista de Souza. The work took two years to be inaugurated and, in 1854, the stretch was around 14.5 km long, connecting the city of Rio de Janeiro to Petr\u00f3polis, both municipalities in the state of Rio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until then, the government's discussion was focused on which sector would be most worth investing in, by rail or highway. However, the Brazilian president chose to prioritize highway roads for some aspects. First, he saw on the highways a great possibility of interconnecting Brazilian cities. In this way, the sector would allow both cargo transportation and outflow to Brazilian ports, as well as allowing people to move between cities. Juscelino was also one of the main Brazilian leaders who invested in the industrial sector, raising foreign capital and expanding the size of industries in Brazil. Therefore, another point that made the president, having to choose between railroad or highway, opt for the second option, was the possibility that he saw of expansion of the auto industries. The reasoning is simple: the more roads, the more automotive vehicles could circulate and, thus, they would become a highly sought after consumer item. In this way, foreign industries would be attracted to invest in the construction of factories here in Brazil, in order to increase the production and creation of automotive vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus of our text from now on will be to address the importance of the Brazilian railroad sector today. Thus, we will make notes on how the sector is composed, what are the main loads handled and their quantities, the number of workers working in this sector and much more. One of the main ones is due to the amount of cargo handled, supplying several Brazilian cities, as well as national ports, fundamental spaces for the export of items produced and extracted in our territory. The main items handled by rail transport are those produced in basic industries, such as ores, grains, agricultural inputs, corn, soybeans, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we mentioned, the change in the way in which the railroads started to be managed occurred from the 90's, when the railroads started to be controlled mostly by the private initiative through concessions auctioned off. Investments increased and, consequently, the cargo handled grew as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from the National railroad Transport Agency (ANTF), in 2019 the number of cargos handled in the Brazilian railroad sector was 95% higher than in 1997, when there was the main legislative change in the treatment of the railroad administration. In 2019, 493.8 million useful tons (TU) were handled, much higher than the 253 million useful tons transported at the end of the last century. Also, according to data from the agency, the main product transported last year was iron ore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the largest mode of transport in Brazil is road, important items of production and export have the railroads as the main routes of flow. ANTF data show that 40% of agricultural products, 50% of sugar transport and 92% of iron ore movement is carried out by railroads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANTF, which is the main regulatory agency and which carries out several researches and notes about the Brazilian railroad sector, also presents a series of important data about cargo transportation in recent years. She points out, for example, that despite the growth in investments in the sector in the recent past, the Brazilian railroad sector is still far behind the Brazilian road sector, which has established itself as the main cargo transport sector in the country. As we have seen, the sector has been neglected by the road sector for a long period, as the current governments saw this sector as a financially advantageous space and, therefore, invested in the growth of highways. Despite this, railroads have always had great economic importance for the country and still have today. It is easy to understand this point, just look at the numbers of investments made in this sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019 alone, 3.3 billion reais were invested to expand the Brazilian rail sector. With the change in the management model of the lines, the governments started to invest again in the sector so that the line auctions generate profits for the public coffers, since, as the concessions last for a certain period of time, the government periodically profits from the sale of the line concession. To better illustrate, we can mention the auction won by the company RUMO in 2019, in which the company won two stretches of the Norte Sul railroad for more than 2 billion reais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another important factor, economically speaking, that the railroad sector presents, especially in relation to other sectors, is the ease of logistics. The railroad lines are advantageous because they allow a much larger load transport in a single vehicle, since a train usually has more than 100 wagons, allowing the transport of a huge amount of loads in a single trip. In addition, compared to highways, railroads do not have a toll, have a lower cost of supplying vehicles, have no traffic and, therefore, become attractive spaces for investments to grow and surpass themselves continuously.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Number of employees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-30-1.png\" alt=\"Number of employees\" class=\"wp-image-2725\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-30-1.png 626w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-30-1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-30-1-500x333.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, it is essential to mention the generation of jobs that the Brazilian railroad sector grants to Brazilians. The sector demands from several workers in the companies they manage, in the driving of trains, in the assembly of railroads, in the maintenance of tracks, in the control of activities and in other operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to ANTF data, the generation of jobs within the sector increased by more than 200% from 1997 until last year, while in the past decades the number of workers in this sector was 13,506, currently there are about 41,632 people working for the development, maintenance and growth of the Brazilian railroad sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We can conclude with the article presented that the railroad sector has great economic importance for Brazil. A partir da d\u00e9cada de 90, com uma mudan\u00e7a importante na legisla\u00e7\u00e3o brasileira, que permitiu uma maior flexibilidade de investimentos da iniciativa privada, o setor voltou a receber investimentos, diversas vias foram reestruturadas e novas passaram a surgir. Atualmente, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio segue como o segundo principal modal de transporte do Brasil, ainda muito atr\u00e1s do setor rodovi\u00e1rio, mas com muita import\u00e2ncia no transporte de cargas e no escoamento de materiais e insumos para os portos brasileiros. O foco do nosso texto a partir de agora ser\u00e1 abordar a import\u00e2ncia do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro nos dias atuais. Dessa forma, faremos apontamentos sobre como o setor \u00e9 composto, quais s\u00e3o as principais cargas movimentadas e suas quantidades, o n\u00famero de trabalhadores atuando nesse setor e muito mais. Um dos principais \u00e9 pela quantidade de cargas movimentadas, abastecendo diversas cidades brasileiras, bem como os portu\u00e1rios nacionais, espa\u00e7os fundamentais para a exporta\u00e7\u00e3o de itens produzidos e extra\u00eddos em nosso territ\u00f3rio. Os principais itens movimentados pelos transportes ferrovi\u00e1rios s\u00e3o os produzidos nas ind\u00fastrias de base, como min\u00e9rios, gr\u00e3os, insumos agr\u00edcolas, milho, soja, entre outros. Como mencionamos, a mudan\u00e7a nos moldes de como as ferrovias passaram a ser administradas ocorreu a partir da d\u00e9cada de 90, quando as ferrovias passaram a ser controladas majoritariamente pela iniciativa privada atrav\u00e9s de concess\u00f5es arrematadas em leil\u00f5es. Os investimentos aumentaram e, consequentemente, as cargas movimentadas foram crescendo tamb\u00e9m. De acordo com dados da Ag\u00eancia Nacional do Transporte Ferrovi\u00e1rio (ANTF), no ano de 2019 o n\u00famero de cargas movimentadas no setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro foi 95% maior do que em 1997, quando houve a principal mudan\u00e7a legislativa no trato da administra\u00e7\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria. Em 2019, foram movimentadas 493,8 milh\u00f5es de toneladas \u00fateis (TU), muito superior \u00e0s&nbsp; 253 milh\u00f5es de toneladas \u00fateis transportados no final do s\u00e9culo passado. Ainda segundo dados da ag\u00eancia, o principal produto transportado no ano passado foi o min\u00e9rio de ferro. Ainda que o maior modal de transporte do Brasil seja o rodovi\u00e1rio, importantes itens de produ\u00e7\u00e3o e exporta\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00eam as ferrovias como as principais vias de escoamento. Dados da ANTF apontam que 40% dos produtos agr\u00edcolas, 50% do transporte de a\u00e7\u00facar e 92% da movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o de min\u00e9rios de ferro \u00e9 realizada pelas vias ferrovi\u00e1rias. A ANTF, que \u00e9 a principal ag\u00eancia reguladora e que realiza diversas pesquisas e apontamentos acerca do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro, apresenta ainda uma s\u00e9rie de dados importantes acerca do transporte de cargas nos \u00faltimos anos. Ela aponta, por exemplo, que apesar do crescimento nos investimentos no setor em um passado recente, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro ainda est\u00e1 muito atr\u00e1s do setor rodovi\u00e1rio brasileiro, que se estabeleceu como o principal setor de transporte de cargas do pa\u00eds. A estimativa da ag\u00eancia \u00e9 de que apenas 20% das cargas transportadas atualmente sejam movimentadas nas ferrovias, enquanto que as rodovias transportam cerca de 65% de todos os insumos do pa\u00eds. Import\u00e2ncia financeira do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro O setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro sempre teve grande import\u00e2ncia para as finan\u00e7as brasileiras. Como percebemos, o setor foi preterido pelo setor rodovi\u00e1rio durante um longo per\u00edodo, pois os governos vigentes viram nesse setor um espa\u00e7o vantajoso financeiramente e, por isso, investiram no crescimento das rodovias. Apesar disso, as ferrovias sempre tiveram grande import\u00e2ncia econ\u00f4mica para o pa\u00eds e ainda t\u00eam hoje em dia. \u00c9 f\u00e1cil de entender esse ponto, basta apenas ver os n\u00fameros de investimentos realizados nesse setor. S\u00f3 no ano de 2019 foram investidos 3,3 bilh\u00f5es de reais para a expans\u00e3o do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro. Com a mudan\u00e7a no molde de administra\u00e7\u00e3o das linhas, os governos passaram a investir novamente no setor para que os leil\u00f5es de linhas gerassem lucros para os cofres p\u00fablicos, visto que, como as concess\u00f5es duram um certo per\u00edodo de tempo, periodicamente o governo lucra com a venda da concess\u00e3o da linha. Para exemplificar melhor, podemos citar o leil\u00e3o vencido pela empresa RUMO no ano de 2019, em que a empresa arrematou dois trechos da Ferrovia Norte Sul por mais de 2 bilh\u00f5es de reais. Outro fator importante, economicamente falando, que o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio apresenta, principalmente em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a outros setores, \u00e9 a facilidade da log\u00edstica. As linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias s\u00e3o vantajosas porque permitem um transporte de cargas muito maior em um s\u00f3 ve\u00edculo, visto que um trem costuma ter mais de 100 vag\u00f5es, possibilitando o transporte de uma enorme quantidade de cargas em uma viagem s\u00f3. Al\u00e9m disso, comparadas \u00e0s rodovias, as vias f\u00e9rreas n\u00e3o tem ped\u00e1gio, tem menor custo de abastecimento dos ve\u00edculos, n\u00e3o tem tr\u00e2nsito e, por isso, tornam-se espa\u00e7os atrativos para que os investimentos cres\u00e7am e se superem continuamente.&nbsp; N\u00famero de funcion\u00e1rios Para finalizar, \u00e9 fundamental mencionar a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de empregos que o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio brasileiro concede para os brasileiros.
