Logistics is effectively the area of study, planning and organization of movements of all types of transport vehicles. When a company needs to carry out several cargo transports daily it is essential that the organization of this practice is well carried out. Therefore, it is necessary to plan how the production items will be moved, which path will be taken, determine the costs with freight and overall operation, as well as dealings with partners, customers, storage sectors and others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Logistics companies are involved in different scenarios and in all types of transport here in Brazil, since this planning practice is essential in water, road, road and rail transport. The focus of our text will be on railroad logistics, how this area is inserted in the railroad sector, which are the main companies, how railroad lines are formed and much more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Railroad logistics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"490\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/f-1.png\" alt=\"Railroad logistics\" class=\"wp-image-2648\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/f-1.png 490w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/f-1-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/f-1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/f-1-480x480.png 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Until today, the railroad sector is one of the main modes of cargo transportation within the Brazilian scenario. Since the first construction of a railroad in Brazil, still at the time of the Empire, the sector has been changing and evolving to better meet the needs of cargo transportation, mainly of products from mining and agriculture, such as ores and grains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until the mid-1950s, the railroad sector was still the main form of cargo transportation in the country, but with the rise of President Juscelino Kubitschek, investments in the road sector began to be increasingly greater. From that period on, there was a change in the investment priority, when the road sector took over the main transport operations in the country. With the lack of incentives and investments, together with the weak organization and planning of the use of the existing railroad lines, the railroads were abandoned and had to go through a long period of recess before they came back fuller and more organized.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this way, railroad logistics has become fundamental for the resumption of the sector's operations and for new investments to be made to improve the infrastructure and the quality of the cargo flow in the sector. Currently, almost all railroad lines are managed by logistics companies, largely because of the knowledge and advantages that these companies have to offer in organizing routes, controlling activities, planning routes, among other duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the railroad sector is responsible for about 20% of the cargo transported in the country. Despite being a number much lower than the other modes, mainly in relation to the road sector, which handles about 60% of cargo, it is a very relevant percentage. There are about 30 thousand km of railroad lines spread over several states in the Brazilian territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the National Railroad Transport Association (ANTF), last year the railroad reached its main brand of transported cargo, with about 107.8 billion tons. This level can be explained by the organizational change that the sector has been going through thanks to the new model of railway logistics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages of railway logistics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-1.png\" alt=\"Advantages of railway logistics\" class=\"wp-image-2649\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-1-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-1-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/massa.ind.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pasted-image-0-1-500x375.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The new investments and the resumption of growth in the railroad sector are linked to the advantages that the railroad sector offers, mainly in relation to the road sector. This factor is fundamental for the railroad logistics to have taken new directions in the country. In this way, it is easy to identify some points that are favorable for logistic companies to invest in revitalizing the railroads, implementing new lines and increasing investments in the sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, railroad logistics is simpler to plan because railroad lines are more restricted than road sections. It is 30 thousand km long, with only 15 lines. When compared to the road sector, which is more than 1.7 million kilometers long, this becomes even more evident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another advantageous factor for railroad logistics is that the trains that make up the modern lines can have up to 100 wagons in a single composition. In this way, it is possible to transport a large amount of cargo in a single trip, a number much higher than the transport made by trucks, which need a much larger number of vehicles to reach the same numbers&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost of logistics operations is also reduced. Trains that pass through the railroad lines do not have a toll cost, unlike what happens with road transport, in which the value of tolls spread over the different stretches is quite high, especially for cargo vehicles. Another advantageous economic data is that the fuel cost is much lower.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are some points that make railroad logistics extremely important and advantageous, especially when compared to the logistics required to feed road transport. Organization is simpler, costs are reduced and travel is more efficient and optimized. As we will see below, there are divergent line sizes, which have more specific routes, climate changes, differences in the types of soils and land, the supply locations, among other factors that directly impact logistics. In addition, some lines built pass through extreme regions, that is, they are stretches whose exit and arrival terminals start in the north and reach the south of the country. These are the main points that make railroad logistics different in each type of line and require companies to plan their strategies according to these factors. In the map that we will show below, it is well exemplified which are those points of departure and arrival and how the railroad lines are formed, as well as which are the logistics companies that are present in the railroad network and which are the lines that are in their concessions. The new investments that have been emerging by companies in the industry are directly linked to the benefits that the logistics of the railroads offer to administrators, especially in relation to the highways. Thus, we can conclude that despite the current moment, when highways are still the main forms of cargo transportation, companies are starting to look at the railroad sector with new eyes, and this is a very positive sign for the sector to start to grow in the coming years.\u00a0<br>Did you like our article? O foco do nosso texto ser\u00e1 a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria, como essa \u00e1rea est\u00e1 inserida no setor ferrovi\u00e1rio, quais s\u00e3o as principais empresas, como s\u00e3o formadas as linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias e muito mais.&nbsp; Log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria At\u00e9 os dias atuais, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 um dos principais modais de transporte de cargas dentro do cen\u00e1rio brasileiro. Desde a primeira constru\u00e7\u00e3o de uma ferrovia no Brasil, ainda na \u00e9poca do Imp\u00e9rio, o setor vem se modificando e evoluindo para melhor atender as necessidades de escoamento de cargas, principalmente de produtos advindos da minera\u00e7\u00e3o e da agropecu\u00e1ria, como min\u00e9rios e gr\u00e3os.&nbsp; At\u00e9 meados da d\u00e9cada de 50, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio ainda era o principal meio de transporte de cargas do pa\u00eds mas, com a ascens\u00e3o do presidente Juscelino Kubitschek, os investimentos no setor rodovi\u00e1rio come\u00e7aram a ser cada vez maiores. A partir desse per\u00edodo houve uma troca na prioridade de investimentos, quando o setor rodovi\u00e1rio assumiu a ponta das principais opera\u00e7\u00f5es de transporte do pa\u00eds. Com a falta de incentivo e investimentos, juntamente com a fraca organiza\u00e7\u00e3o e planejamento da utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o das linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias existentes, as ferrovias foram abandonadas e precisaram passar por um longo per\u00edodo de recesso antes que voltassem mais encorpadas e organizadas.&nbsp; Dessa forma, a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria passou a ser fundamental para a retomada das opera\u00e7\u00f5es do setor e para que novos investimentos fossem executados para a melhoria da infraestrutura e da qualidade do escoamento de cargas do setor. Atualmente, quase todas as linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias s\u00e3o administradas por empresas de log\u00edstica, muito por conta do conhecimento e das vantagens que essas empresas t\u00eam para oferecer na organiza\u00e7\u00e3o das rotas, controle das atividades, planejamento dos trajetos, entre outras atribui\u00e7\u00f5es. Hoje em dia, o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por cerca de 20% das cargas transportadas no pa\u00eds. Apesar de ser um n\u00famero bastante inferior aos outros modais, principalmente com rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao setor rodovi\u00e1rio, que movimenta cerca de 60% das cargas, \u00e9 uma porcentagem bastante relevante. S\u00e3o cerca de 30 mil km de extens\u00e3o de linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias espalhadas por diversos estados do territ\u00f3rio brasileiro. Segundo a Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional do Transporte Ferrovi\u00e1rio (ANTF), no ano passado o modal ferrovi\u00e1rio atingiu sua principal marca de cargas transportadas, com cerca de 107,8 bilh\u00f5es de toneladas. Esse patamar pode ser explicado pela mudan\u00e7a organizacional que o setor vem passando gra\u00e7as ao novo modelo de log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria.&nbsp; Vantagens da log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria Os novos investimentos e a retomada do crescimento do setor ferrovi\u00e1rio est\u00e3o ligados \u00e0s vantagens que o setor ferrovi\u00e1rio oferece, principalmente em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao rodovi\u00e1rio. Esse fator \u00e9 fundamental para que a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria tenha tomado novos rumos no pa\u00eds. Dessa maneira, \u00e9 f\u00e1cil de identificar alguns pontos que s\u00e3o favor\u00e1veis para que as empresas log\u00edsticas invistam na revitaliza\u00e7\u00e3o das vias f\u00e9rreas, implementa\u00e7\u00e3o de novas linhas e aumento dos investimentos no setor.&nbsp; Primeiramente, a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria \u00e9 mais simples de ser planejada porque as linhas ferrovi\u00e1rias s\u00e3o mais restritas do que os trechos rodovi\u00e1rios. S\u00e3o 30 mil km de extens\u00e3o, com apenas 15 linhas. Quando comparamos com o setor rodovi\u00e1rio, que possui mais de 1,7 milh\u00f5es de quil\u00f4metros de extens\u00e3o, isso se torna ainda mais evidente. Outro fator vantajoso para a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria \u00e9 que os trens que comp\u00f5em as linhas modernas podem possuir at\u00e9 100 vag\u00f5es em uma \u00fanica composi\u00e7\u00e3o. Dessa forma, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel transportar uma grande quantidade de cargas em uma \u00fanica viagem, n\u00famero bem superior ao transporte feito por caminh\u00f5es, que precisam de uma quantidade de ve\u00edculos muito maior para atingir os mesmos n\u00fameros.&nbsp; O custo das opera\u00e7\u00f5es log\u00edsticas tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o reduzidos. Os trens que passam pelas linhas f\u00e9rreas n\u00e3o t\u00eam custo de ped\u00e1gio, diferente do que ocorre com o transporte rodovi\u00e1rio, em que o valor dos ped\u00e1gios espalhados pelos diversos trechos \u00e9 bastante alto, principalmente para ve\u00edculos de cargas. Outro dado econ\u00f4mico vantajoso \u00e9 que o custo de combust\u00edvel \u00e9 muito menor.&nbsp; Esses s\u00e3o alguns pontos que fazem com que a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria seja extremamente importante e vantajosa, principalmente quando comparada com a log\u00edstica necess\u00e1ria para alimentar o transporte rodovi\u00e1rio. A organiza\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 mais simples, os custos s\u00e3o reduzidos e as viagens s\u00e3o mais eficientes e otimizadas. Assim, entendemos o porqu\u00ea de as empresas de log\u00edstica terem grande influ\u00eancia nesse setor e preferirem investir na amplia\u00e7\u00e3o da malha ferrovi\u00e1ria do que em outros modais de transporte.&nbsp; Diferen\u00e7as e composi\u00e7\u00f5es das linhas Obviamente, a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria \u00e9 diferente em cada tipo de linha. Como veremos a seguir, existem divergentes tamanho de linhas, que t\u00eam trajetos mais espec\u00edfico, mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, diferen\u00e7as nos tipos de solos e terrenos, os locais de abastecimento, entre outros fatores que impactam diretamente na log\u00edstica. Al\u00e9m disso, algumas linhas constru\u00eddas passam por regi\u00f5es extremas, ou seja, s\u00e3o trechos cujos terminais de sa\u00edda e chegada come\u00e7am no norte e chegam ao sul do pa\u00eds. Esses s\u00e3o os principais pontos que fazem com que a log\u00edstica ferrovi\u00e1ria seja diferente em cada tipo de linha e exigem que as empresas planejem suas estrat\u00e9gias de acordo com esses fatores.
